Samsung's 600MP sensor confirmed to be in the pipeline

According to a tipster, who seems to have really good internal connections over at Samsung, has confirmed that the company is indeed working on a 600MP sensor. And to prove it, he has shared what seems to be a slide from an internal document or presentation. In short, we have a very good reason to believe the report. To our surprise, the slide reveals quite a bit of information - from some key specs to the motivation behind the project. It says that due to the 4K and 8K video recording becoming more mainstream, Samsung wants to solve that with a bigger sensor, which allows for zoomed...

A new Nokia phone surfaces on TENAA's website

After the FCC's listing of two upcoming Nokia smartphones from yesterday, we now have a TENAA listing with an unnamed Nokia device. The model number is TA-1335, which is suspiciously close to the TA-1333 model number of the FCC handset. However, early findings suggest that the two phones have little in common. While the TA-1333 has some similarities with the Nokia 3.4, the TA-1335 from TENAA is clearly closer to the Nokia C3. It's a budget device, reportedly aimed at the CNY 1,000-2,000 market segment. But closer to the lower end of the bracket. The filing reveals a handset with a...

This week, Zach of JerryRigEverything put the Google Pixel 5 through his durability test, which revealed that the Google Pixel 5 didn’t put as much metal in the phone as it said it did. Regardless of it’s plastic exterior, it was indeed one tough cookie. Even after inadvertently piercing the back of the Pixel 5’s battery (which caused a few sparks to fly) and after an hour batch in acetone, the Pixel 5 still powered back on. Sony patent envisions dual GPU console and cloud gaming, could be the PS5 Pro

A patent filed in January last year by Sony reveals an ambitious project of a console that sports not one but two GPUs, similar to some PC configurations with Nvidia's SLI and AMD's CrossFire GPU support. The patent, however, says that the implementation of two GPUs in a console is much more elaborate than on a PC. Android 11 and One UI 3.0 now seeding to first Galaxy S20 units

Normally Samsung starts the rollout of its major updates with unlocked units in a single country as a sort of a soak test, but the company went in a different direction with the Galaxy S20's serving of Android 11. This time around Galaxy S20-series owners on Verizon in the US are the first getting the stable build of One UI 3.0 based on Android 11. In any case, this is a clear indication that the latest software update for the Galaxy S20 lineup is just around the corner and hopefully a global rollout is expected in the following days. The Galaxy S20 family was the first to enter One...

Infinix Zero 8i arrives with a 48MP main cam, 16MP dual selfie shooter

Infinix announced the Zero 8 smartphone in August and we got the chance to review it. Now the company is following it up with a slightly toned down version dubbed Infinix Zero 8i. The new phone is pretty much the same as the old one, down to the footprint and the internals. We’re looking at a 6.85” LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution. The chipset is Helio G90T and is coupled with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage, with optional expansion through the microSD slot. The main shooter on the back is now 48MP with an f/1.8 lens in front instead of the 64MP f/1.9 module on the...

Apple facing more “batterygate” lawsuits in Europe

At the start of this week, Apple was fined €10 million (about $12 million) in Italy over its misleading water resistance claims. Last month Cupertino agreed to pay $113 million in settlements with its consumer fraud allegations in over 30 US states over its infamous “batterygate” practices affecting iPhone 6, iPhone 7 and iPhone SE models. Now, a total of five European consumer organizations filed new class-action lawsuits against Apple in Belgium and Spain over the same planned obsolescence claims and the intentional slowdown of iPhone 6 and 6s series devices. The new lawsuits are...

New vivo Y51 announced with bigger screen and battery

vivo introduced the Y51 back in December 2015 with Snapdragon 410 SoC, and in September this year, it launched the new Y51, which came with the Snapdragon 665 chipset, AMOLED screen, and 48MP quad camera. Now the company has announced one more smartphone with the Y51 moniker, but it has a different design and internals. For starters, the new Y51 is built around a 6.58" FullHD+ LCD panel, which is 0.2" larger than the Y51's AMOLED display launched in September. The new Y51 also has a bigger battery - 5,000 mAh as opposed to the 4,500 mAh cell. Another difference between the new Y51 and...

Oppo Reno5, Reno5 Pro design and specs officially confirmed as pre-orders begin

Oppo will introduce the Reno5 series smartphones on December 10, and while we already have a decent idea of what they look like, the images posted on Oppo's official site confirm a few of their specs and give us an even better look at the smartphones as the company has started accepting pre-orders. The Reno5 lineup is rumored to consist of three smartphones - Reno5 5G, Reno5 Pro 5G, and Reno5 Pro+ 5G. However, Oppo has only listed the vanilla and Pro models on its website, with no word on the Pro+ variant. The Reno5 5G and Reno5 Pro 5G look similar - they have frosted glass backs...

Qualcomm to launch a new 7-series Snapdragon chipset in Q1 2021

Qualcomm introduced its new flagship chipset called Snapdragon 888 earlier this week. We expected an upper-midrange platform to take the stage as well, but the San Diego company had nothing more to share about a new 700 series top dog. According to one leakster on Weibo, the new chipset will be introduced in Q1 2021 and will start shipping almost immediately. The new 7-series chipset by Qualcomm is expected to be the main competitor to the 5nm Exynos 1080 with integrated 5G modem and the MT6893 platform by Mediatek - a 6nm upper-midranger that is yet to be announced. So far we...

Brazilian pro-consumer agency doesn’t buy Apple’s reason for removing chargers

With the iPhone 12, Apple removed the charging adapters from the retail packaging, claiming that the change will reduce carbon emissions. Apple also claimed that most people already have a charger lying around. While most of the world shrugged and went along with Apple’s eco-explanation, one region in Brazil is not buying what Apple is selling. The public consumer protection agency for the Brazilian state of São Paulo has officially asked Apple to include chargers with new iPhones or it will face fines. Back in October, Procon-SP (the pro-consumer agency in São Paulo) asked Apple...

Google Pixel 5 durability test looks for metal under layers of plastic

Google's highest-end smartphone of the year isn't a true flagship, because it's missing the top of the line chipset. Even so, the Pixel 5 is interesting to see in a sea of similar looking glass-sandwich devices. On its website, Google keeps advertising how the phone is made out of metal, so YouTuber Zach from JerryRigEverything decided to go hunting for that metal, during one of his trademark durability testing videos. Spoiler alert: what you're touching when you hold the Pixel 5 isn't metal, aside from the power button. The rest of the phone has layers of plastic hiding that metal, if we...

Reports say some iPhone 12-series units losing LTE and 5G service

Since the end of October, a few hundred users have taken yo Apple's forums to report that their iPhone 12 (with reports seemingly covering all fourmodels) drops the cellular connection on 5G and 4G networks. This seems to be happening more often with Verizon and AT&T users but T-Mobile clients experience the issue too. A separate Reddit thread has been created just for this and owners of iPhone 12 say that this happens mostly while they are traveling by car. The workaround, for now, is to turn on the airplane mode on and off again. One of the commenters said that he was able to reach...
