Top 10 trending phones of week 18

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 retained its lead as the most popular phone in our database for a second week in a row. The Chinese phablet is clearly on the short list of a lot of people currently, which helped it keep above the Galaxy J7 once more. The Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J3 (2016) have traded places, but are still here to make it 3 Galaxy J phone in the top 4 of the chart. The fastest climber is Lenovo K4 Note, which has moved from 8th to 6th place and has managed to split the Galaxy S7 duo. The best spec'd Galaxy J member - the J7(2016) has slipped a position to 8th, while the...

Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) can now be purchased from AT&T too

Yesterday Verizon started selling the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016). And today Big Red's largest competitor has done the exact same thing, right on the schedule it announced back in April. The phone manages to be $1.99 more expensive if bought from AT&T than if you'd grab one from Verizon, when comparing its full retail price at both carriers. That's $169.99 if you choose AT&T, and $168 at Big Red. However, Verizon is offering it with a prepaid plan for just $109.99, while AT&T is giving you the device installment plan option to use alongside a service agreement. If you go this route,...

Asus will announce the ZenFone 3 series on May 30

It's a well known fact that Asus loves announcing new devices during Computex, the expo held each summer in Taipei, Taiwan. And this year will be no different. In fact, we should expect a barrage of Zen-branded products from the Taiwanese company to be showcased at this year's show, which takes place from May 31 to June 4. But before that, on May 30, Asus will hold a big event during which it's going to make its newest devices official. This has been made clear by a big countdown timer that's already very visible on Asus' official website. Asus is expected to make the ZenFone 3...

Microsoft Lumia 650 is now available at Cricket for $129.99

Today Cricket has finally started selling the Microsoft Lumia 650. Then last month the release date was unveiled by the carrier as being May 6. And here we are. You can now jump over to Cricket's website and purchase the Lumia 650 for $129.99. This being a prepaid brand, that obviously means you don't need to sign a long-term contract when buying the phone. The Microsoft Lumia 650 comes with a 5-inch 720p OLED touchscreen, an 8...

Samsung Galaxy S7 active gets shown in leaked images on its way to AT&T

Back in March a few leaks and rumors spoke about Samsung prepping a Galaxy S7 active smartphone, which was supposedly on its way to AT&T. That made sense, since that particular carrier has offered both of Samsung's "Active" versions of its flagships in the past - we're talking about the S6 active and the S5 Active. And today from Vietnam come some leaked images that confirm that hypothesis once more. The Galaxy S7 active is shown in the shots you can see below, as made obvious from the branding on its back. Also there is AT&T's logo sitting below the camera, so it's clear that there will...

More Galaxy C5 photos leak

Just a day after the Samsung Galaxy C5 leaked in pictures for the first time (showing off its metal body), a new set of images - alleged to be of the same device - has leaked online. Take a look: Giving a more eye-pleasing view, these new images also confirm a metal body (something that has already been rumored before). As for the device's specs, rumors suggest Snapdragon 617 SoC, 5.2-inch display, 4GB RAM, and Android 6.0. The Galaxy C5 is expected to be launched this month. Source (in Chinese)

Vivo V3Max review: Simplified Chinese

Vivo enjoyed a good run with the X-series in 2015 and even snatched the world's slimmest phone title with the local Chinese version of the X5Max. In 2016, the company is obviously trying to carry that momentum into the midrange with the V-series.

Huawei P9 teardown by iFixit yields 7 out of 10 repairability score

The teardown experts at iFixit are at it again. The handset that's gone through the procedure this time is the Huawei P9. The Chinese company's latest flagship manages to bag a 7 out of 10 repairability score in the end, which is identical to the result of the iPhone 6s. On the other hand, keep in mind that Samsung's Galaxy S7 and S7 edge have only managed to score a measly 3 out of 10. So the P9 is obviously more easily repairable than what Huawei clearly thinks its main competitor is (the S7). This has been achieved by using modular components with spring contacts, "thoughtful cabling",...

Galaxy Note 6 'Lite' rumored with SD820 SoC, 1080p display, and 4GB RAM

Just a couple of weeks ago, there were reports that Samsung is testing two Galaxy Note 6 versions - one with flat screen, and the other with curved edges. While there's no word on which of the two will see the light of the day (or if both will be launched), a new rumor is claiming that a scaled-down variant is in the works as well. Thankfully, the rumor also reveals some of the specs of this new variant: SD820 chipset, 1080p display resolution (size remains 5.8-inch), and 4GB RAM. It's funny that with this kind of specs, we're calling it a scaled-down or 'Lite' version, but the fact...

HTC 10 storage read/write speeds are below average with other 2016 flagships

The time that it took to transfer sample photos from HTC 10 to our PC definitely felt much slower than transferring photos from the LG G5 or the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. LG Stylo 2 is headed to Cricket, arrives on May 13

Having already launched at Sprint's prepaid brands (Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile) last month, the LG Stylo 2 is now on its way to AT&T's Cricket brand. As this is also a prepaid carrier, you won't need to sign a long-term contract to grab the phone when it becomes available online and in stores on May 13. The handset is priced at just $169.99. Then again, it is a mid-ranger so don't expect flagship specs. The unique selling point of the Stylo 2 therefore has to be its built-in stylus - not something usually seen in this price range. The Stylo 2 has a 5.7-inch 720p touchscreen,...

Alleged Samsung Galaxy A4 spotted on Zauba

Looks like Samsung may soon update its 'Galaxy A' line-up of smartphones with a new member. A device carrying a model number of SM-A430U has been spotted on India's import tracking website Zauba, with reports alleging that it's the Galaxy A4. Given the fact that the South Korean company usually follows a set format for model numbers (for example, the second-gen Galaxy A3 is A310F, Galaxy A5 is A510F, and Galaxy A7 is A710F), if anything, A430U is enough to suggest that it could very well be the Galaxy A4. Sadly, the Zauba listing doesn't reveal anything else, especially in terms of...

T-Mobile LG G3 Marshmallow update now rolling out OTA as well

If you recall, we told you about the availability of T-Mobile LG G3 Marshmallow update last week, although it was only available through LG's desktop software at that time. The good news is that its over-the-air roll out has begun as well. The change-log posted on the magenta carrier's website, however, doesn't reveal much about the update, except that it bumps the software version to D85130d, and brings Android Marshmallow (version 6.0 as we learned last week) as well as some WiFi calling-related improvements. As is the case usually with OTA roll-outs, it may take some time before...

Production issues force Xiaomi to delay Mi Band 2 launch

For those who are eagerly waiting for the next-gen Mi Band from Xiaomi, there's some bad news: the wearable device's launch has been pushed back. This was announced by none other than the Chinese company's CEO Lei Jun on Weibo. The Mi Band 2 was set to be made official on May 10, alongside the Mi Max and MIUI 8.0. While Xiaomi might still go ahead and unveil the device as per the schedule, the release has been delayed by a month, as noted by Jun in his post.
