New Microsoft app will tell you if you Lumia is eligible for a Windows 10 update

Patience is definitely running thin among Lumia users, as the Windows 10 update has proven an even longer and more confusing affair than anyone could have initially predicted. It is clear that Microsoft's new mobile OS won't remain reserved for its new offers, like the Lumia 950 and 550 alone and that it will be dissipated as best as possible throughout the ream of legacy devise as well. However, what was initially set to happen around the end of last year was then replace with a vague promise of an early 2016 release frame. But perhaps worse of all is the almost insurmountable confusion regarding the exact list of eligible devices. Everybody seems to have a slightly varying list of devices it deems trustworthy, from early rumors and all the way to official carrier announcements and even the Microsoft website. It doesn't help either that reports are already flying in of certain Lumia 535 and Lumia 640 devices, receiving the eagerly anticipated OTA. Luckily, it seems that the US giant has finally come to its senses and decided to put a stop to all the confusion once and for all, or at least seems to intend to do so with a new app it is developing. Dubbed Upgrade Advisor, it is designed to be a one-stop source for Windows 10 update questions, as well as a source for tips on how to prepare your device for the new firmware and most importantly - weather it is eligible for the update at all. The app can already be found within the Microsoft store, but it is still marked as Beta and not available to everyone. Hopefully this will change shortly. In the meantime, there are a few already known requirements to get the update that we can reiterate for you. First of all, your Lumia needs to have at least 8GB of storage, 1.5GB of which free as a minimum for the installation process to work. Your current software version must also be 8.10.14219.341 or higher, or in other words, you must have the Lumia Denim update already installed. Also, as far as we currently know, the initial Windows 10 build that is going to seed to legacy devices is numbered 10.0.10586.29. Source |...

Microsoft is still on track developing an iOS bridge in Windows 10

One of the definitive cornerstones of Microsoft's Windows 10 platform is the push towards the new Universal Windows apps platform. It is an ambitious undertaking that is already showing great promise and allows developers to quickly reuse code across the Windows 10 ecosystem, regardless of device specifics. Microsoft Continuum for phones perhaps best illustrates the amazing potential of this approach and the progress the US giant has done with apps like Word and Excel. But, as you may or may not remember, during the final months before the initial Windows 10 release, Microsoft has building up hype about the Universal apps platform even more by talking of almost dream-like easy migration of existing legacy .NET and Win32 apps to the new platform and even more impressively - software written for third party platforms - Android, iOS and the Web. Amidst all the Windows 10 hype, however, many people forgot the utopian promises, which apparently proved a bit too much for the US giant to handle. Now, however, in a new development, it seems the iOS software bridge project, dubbed "Islandwood" is still under development and perhaps even on track for a release. This newfound hope for the project comes in the shape of an invitation on Microsoft's website to sign up for the beta test of a new tool for analyzing and testing existing iOS apps in order to determine their potential compatibility with Windows 10. The tool is expected to go live in the coming weeks. What this means is that the analyzer will attempt to scurry through the software and break down the basic functionalities of the iOS platform and API calls that it uses in order to determine if and how easily they can be remapped to alternatives within the Windows universal apps platform. The next planned step is for Microsoft to release a set of tools for working with Objective C code and migrating iOS apps as part of the Visual studio suite. Actually, that endeavor seems to be in progress as well, considering an early version of said tools is already open sourced and available on GitHub. Thigs are definitely moving along for the iOS bridge, but sadly, the same can't really be said about its siblings. Last we heard, the Android bridge, dubbed project "Astoria" was being scrapped or at least put on hold. However, that was back in November 2015 and there might be new, behind the scenes developments, yet to be uncovered. We have even less information about .NET and Wind32 compatibility (project "Centennial") and Web migration (dubbed "Westminster"). Source |...

Two Samsung Galaxy S7 devices spotted on Indonesian certification site hint at Exynos and dual SIM

The mystery around Samsung's next flagship line seems to be thickening by the minute. Nobody can still make heads or tails of the often conflicting rumors and definitively deduce exactly how many different Galaxy S7 size, display and chipset variations there will be, nor when each will launch. As far as we can make out, there will be a total of three sizes and four models. The base Samsung Galaxy S7 will have a flat 5.1" screen, no curved option. The Galaxy S7 edge will have a bigger 5.5" screen and there won't be a flat-screened S7 of that size. The big-screened device, the Galaxy S7+, will have a 6" screen and will be the only one to have two screen options. A leaked banner also suggests that all but the flat-screen big version will launch simultaneously. And as for chipsets, we have already seen proof, on several occasions of the existence of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 option for all or some of the models and we have no doubt that the rest will use Samsung's own Exynos 8890 chip. A newly unearthed pair of certificated out of Indonesia could provide some additional information. It lists two models, SM-G930FD and SM-G935FD. If we break the names down and compare them to the current Galaxy S6 family, there are actually quite a few speculations to be made. First of all, the aforementioned AnTuTu leak backs up the G930 family moniker and it does make sense, since the S6 uses the G920 one, so we are definitely talking about the same device. Moving on to the next digit, we can't help but notice that the flat screen S6 and curved S6 edge use the G920 and G925 numbers, respectively, so the aforementioned certification looks to pertain to the pair of allegedly smaller Galaxy S7 models. As for the trailing letters, the "F" most-likely indicates and Exynos chipset, just like the "A" most-likely means a Snapdragon 820 AT&T version. Last, but definitely not least, the FD abbreviation can also be traced to the Galaxy S6 and the SM-G920FD in particular. It is the dual SIM, Exynos version of the handset, designed for Pakistan and the Philippines. If this all adds up the way we think, this means that both the S7 and S7 edge should have a dual Sim alternative on said markets and perhaps in other places as well. As for the rest of the presumed specs of the Galaxy S7 line, they should carry QHD, Super AMOLED displays, 4GB of RAM and a new Samsung Britecell 12MP main camera. Another rumor talks of a bigger battery, a microSD card slot and perhaps even waterproofing. Currently the big announcement is expected to take place on February 21. VLC developer: We are currently focusing on Windows 8.1 release instead of Windows 10

The team behind the popular video player application VLC is currently working on the Windows 8.1 version instead of Windows 10 Mobile. This was revealed by the main developer of the app, Thomas Nigro, on Twitter. .@Nitsiitian We're working on a Windows 8.1 release and preparing the Windows 10 port, it takes time for many reasons. Honor 5X to get Marshmallow, EM UI 4, and regular security patches

There are some things you simply can't expect to get from a $200 smartphone, like the latest software updates or durable hardware. Here is where Honor is tipping the bucket even further. We were told by Honor that it plans to update the Honor 5X's UI all the way to Marshmallow and EM UI 4 (the same UI found on the new Mate 8 flagship), and also provide regular android security patches. We weren't told if this was going to be on a monthly basis, but even if not, the company still wants its customers to know that it won't forget about the mid-rangers when it comes to updates. Honor is a sub company of Huawei's who announced its entry into the US at CES earlier this month. It plans to target the millennial market of young adults who like to individualize themselves while also making a statement. Honor believes this is the phone to do just that. I am so far quite impressed with the Honor 5X. I've been using it for just a few days, and it is performing exceptionally well for the price. It has expandable memory, a generous 3000 mAh battery, and a fingerprint scanner for quick and secure access to the device. It even has three card slots, one for a Micro SD card up to 128GB, and two SIM slots, one nano and the other micro. Right now the Honor 5X is available for pre-order from Newegg, Amazon, and Honor with a shipping date of January 31. If you haven't already, check out our unboxing and hands-on...

Sony Xperia C4 gets Android 5.1 update even if it was supposed to jump straight to 6.0

Back in October of last year, Sony told us that six of its devices would not receive updates to Android 5.1 Lollipop, instead jumping from 5.0 straight to 6.0 (Marshmallow). The Xperia C4 was on that list, so obviously we were expecting to see it tasting Marshmallow soon. Now though there's an update out for it (as well as the Xperia C4 Dual), but it's not Android 6.0. Instead, it's Android 5.1 Lollipop, a version these models shouldn't have received. Odd are Sony's ways sometimes. Anyway, this is a new Android version, even if it's nowhere near as big as 6.0. The rollout is currently underway for five of the six C4/C4 Dual versions out there (with only the E5343 being excluded for now). Of course the update will reach you over-the-air, probably within the next few days (as these things are usually staged). After having installed the new release, you'll be on build number 27.2.A.0.155 if you have the C4, or 27.2.B.0.155 for the C4...

Microsoft Lumia 650 to be priced at around $222

Microsoft's upcoming mid-range smartphone, the Lumia 650, has been in the news a lot lately, along with a couple of possible siblings - the Lumia 750 and 850. And now thanks to an alleged leak originating at a smartphone distributor in the Czech Republic, we may know how much the Lumia 650 is going to cost, at least in Europe. The phone will apparently be priced at CZK 5,491 in the Czech Republic, SIM-free and unlocked of course. That currently translates into $222 or €203. Though given the exchange rate situation, if it ever launches in the US we expect it to be less than $199 unlocked. And in the Eurozone its price could be something like €199. The Lumia 650 will reportedly feature a 5-inch 720p touchscreen, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 210 chipset, an 8 MP main camera, a front-facing speaker, LTE, and a 2,000 mAh battery. It will run Windows 10 Mobile, naturally. The handset might become official at MWC next month. Source (in Czech) | Via 1 • Via...

Tap 10 promo for Android Pay lets you win a Chromecast and free songs

Google is launching a new promotion for users of its Android Pay system. It's called Tap 10, and it's all about making sure you use Android Pay as much as possible. By paying for stuff using Android Pay, you can win stuff such as free songs from Google Play Music, as well as a Chromecast. The more you tap and pay (at brick-and-mortar stores), the more free things you get. Each tap nets you a free song from Play Music, and when you reach ten taps you get a free Chromecast - that's a $35 value. Caveats? Sure. First off, to play the Tap 10 thing, you first need to see it in the Android Pay app. Currently, some people do, others don't - it's unclear why exactly. On the other hand, the promo does run until February 29, so that's plenty of time for Google to get it together. When it does work, the promo shows up as a card in the Android Pay app. Tapping on it will bring you to the UI you can see in the screenshots above. Source |...

Purported Huawei P9 schematic shows fingerprint scanner, dual cameras

Now that the Mate 8 is official, Huawei has switched to delivering the final touches for the upcoming P9. The successor to the P8 is probably due in a few weeks, and because of that we're seeing more and more leaks and rumors about it. Today's information about the P9 comes in the form of a leaked schematic that is allegedly of this handset. As you can see, it marks a pretty big departure from the design of the P8 from 2015. There's a physical Home button on the front under the screen, which surely houses a fingerprint scanner - because otherwise there would be no need to forgo the software-rendered Android buttons. On the back we see a dual camera setup (which we've heard about before), along with a dual-LED flash. There's a sole speaker on the bottom side of the phone, with the 3.5mm headset jack nearby. The frame of the device is clearly going to be made out of metal, but it's unclear if this will extend to the back as well, or if that will be a sheet of glass. According to past rumors, the P9 should come with a 5.2-inch 1080p touchscreen, the Kirin 950 SoC, dual 12 MP cameras on the rear, as well as a 3,000 mAh battery. It could become official at MWC in February, and we might see it in stores at some point in March. Source (in Chinese) |...

The Galaxy J3 has a 5-inch 720p Super AMOLED touchscreen, a 5 MP rear camera with LED flash, a 2 MP front-facing unit, a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, 4G LTE, and a 2,600 mAh battery. UK watchdog clears BT's EE acquisition

After giving it a provisional nod back in October last year, UK's competition watchdog CMA (Competition and Markets Authority) has given a green signal to the BT-EE deal. Formally announced back in February 2015, the deal will see the British telecommunications giant acquiring UK's leading mobile carrier for a total of $19 billion (£12.5 billion), creating a communications giant offering services like broadband, fixed-line, mobile, and TV. When CMA gave the merger a provisional nod last year, the watchdog said it'll publish a final report in January 2016. The only hurdle for the deal at that time was competitors' (Vodafone and TalkTalk) objection to BT retaining its Openreach broadband infrastructure service. However, the deal has been cleared without conditions. As one would expect, BT has welcomed the decision. "The combined BT and EE will be a digital champion for the UK, providing high levels of investment and driving innovation in a highly competitive market," said BT Chief Executive Gavin Patterson. "I have no doubt that consumers, businesses and communities will benefit as we combine the power of fibre broadband with the convenience of leading edge mobile services. I look forward to welcoming EE into the BT family." The company expects the merger to be complete in the coming weeks, following which it says EE owners Deutsche Telekom and Orange will have 12% and 4% of BT shares, respectively. A representative of Deutsche Telekom will also be appointed to the BT Board. Source 1 2 |...

LG G5 to come at MWC, take on the Galaxy S7

We're already anticipating LG's pre-MWC press event on February 21, when the company is almost certainly going to unveil the LG G5 flagship. And with this one, LG is adamant it won't lag behind Samsung in any way. An LG executive cited by Korean Times said that while previous company flagships have been pushed back "months after the release" of Samsung's premium offerings, this year will be different and "LG Electronics is ready to take on Samsung." The latest set of LG G5 rumors suggest the phone will rock a 5.6" QHD display with Gorilla Glass 4, Snapdragon 820 SoC with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, further expandable via the microSD card slot. An interesting feature of the G5 is the reportedly modular design. It would allow users to remove the bottom of the phone and replace the battery. Finally, we expect a 20MP main camera with a 1.2" sensor, laser autofocus and OIS. Source |...

US Sony Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact are not getting fingerprint readers

The Sony Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact are coming to the US, but their fingerprint reader must have been confiscated by the TSA. You read that right, the US versions of Sony's flagships will lack the security-focused sensor. True, they will still bring a new chipset (Snapdragon 810, up from S801) and the new generation camera... but an Xperia Z3 can be snatched right now for $360 or so, well below the $600 the Z5 will cost. The Xperia Z3 Compact is $360 on Amazon too, while the Z5 Compact will go for $500. Sony's strategy in the US has been, shall we call it a little confusing? This move is even stranger - few flagships are left with no fingerprint reader and Sony can't exactly coast on the popularity of the Xperia brand to make up for the...

Developers can now issue promo codes for their apps on the Play Store

Promo codes have been a long requested features by Android developers and it appears Google has finally decide to oblige and bake the functionality straight into the Play Store. In its current state, it is executed in a pretty straightforward manner. Xiaomi smartphone sales in 2015 below lowest expectations

Xiaomi's exorbitant growth was bound to hit a wall at some point and this point was 2015, apparently. Falling short of even the most conservative forecasts, the company has only sold a total of 70 million smartphones, where initial expectation put the number in the 80 to 100 million range. That's still around 15% up from the 61.1 million units Xiaomi sold in 2014, but the growth is nowhere near the 227% the company registered in 2014, or the 160% the year before. However, it was unreasonable to expect the Chinese start-up, established in 2010, to be able to sustain such growth trends for more than a couple of years. The company's expansion to India in 2014 was undoubtedly a key factor in those 227%, but from now on moves to smaller markets with gradual growth in the double digits are perhaps the best the accountants can hope for. December 2015 was best month ever of Xbox One sales but PS4 was still top seller

Market research firm NPD has released its December 2015 US retail report revealing that it was the best ever month of Microsoft's Xbox One as well as Sony's PS4 sales, although specific sales numbers weren't revealed. "As an indication of the strength of the new consoles, December 2015 marked the best month to date of PS4 unit sales as well as the Xbox One," the research firm said. As for the top selling gaming console in December, the PS4 retained the spot. Overall, there was a decrease of 6% in hardware unit sales compared to December 2014, which the firm said was driven by a 71% drop in seventh generation hardware and 32% decrease in portable hardware. The eighth generation spending was, however, up by 4%. NPD also commented on sales of both Play Station and Xbox devices ever since they launched. "After 26 months of sales, the combined cumulative sales of Xbox One and PS4 exceeds the 26 month total of the PS3 and Xbox 360 by 47 per cent," the firm said. "The lead from the prior generation has expanded due to the strong PS4 and Xbox One 2015 holiday, going from 38 per cent by the end of October, growing to 47 per cent by the end of November, and maintaining 47 per cent higher sales by the end of December." In terms of games, Call Of Duty: Black Ops III bagged the top spot in December. It was also the the biggest game of...

LeTV has sold 3 million Le 1s units in over a couple of months

Chinese company LeTV has revealed that it has managed to sell nearly 3 million Le 1s units in over a couple of months. The revelation was made by the firm's Senior VP Feng Xing. While that's no doubt impressive, what makes it even more significant is that it comes from a company that first entered the smartphone market less than a year ago. LeTV recently revealed that it sold a total of 4 million smartphones last year, which essentially means that the Le 1s was the company's best seller. The Chinese firm is all set to enter the Indian smartphone market with the Le Max, which has 6.33-inch display and 4GB RAM. BlackBerry responds to reports of Dutch forensic team hacking its phones

"BlackBerry does not have any details on the specific device or the way that it was configured, managed or otherwise protected, nor do we have details on the nature of the communications that are claimed to have been decrypted," the company said. However, the company didn't refute the decryption claims, saying that factors such as user consent, an insecure third party application, or deficient security behavior of the user could have facilitated the...

Google Drive updated to help organize files more easily

Sometimes, files can be messy in a folder, drive, or cloud service, and you have to resort to searching for something every time. Google Drive is helping users make the most of a limited storage space by allowing you to organize files directly from the search results, or from the file preview window. You can also choose to "move" files when you are in the preview window. From here, a little window will pop up with all your folders where you can place files. You can also create a new folder within another folder to better organize your files. Another new feature is the drag and drop to the sidebar. You can drag and drop files directly from the search results, making for an easy way to finally know where that one spreadsheet is. As you start to drag the files, the sidebar on the left changes to show your folder structure where you can place the file. Google Drive has been improving little by little offering better file management to compete with other cloud storage services. Last month, Google added an advanced search feature which allowed users to search for files by extension and date modified, much like Windows' advanced search for files. Source |...

Verizon's LG Optimus Zone 3 gets official

Verizon has added a new smartphone to its newly simplified prepaid roster. The LG Optimus Zone 3 got leaked in December as it was being prepared for launch, and now it's finally official. You can pick one up on Verizon's prepaid plans for just $69.99. Obviously for that amount of cash you're not getting a high-end flagship, rather an entry-level device. The LG Optimus Zone 3 has a 4.5-inch touchscreen, a 1.1 GHz quad-core processor, a 5 MP rear camera, a 2 MP selfie shooter, and 32GB of expandable storage. It runs Android Lollipop, and since the exact version isn't mentioned we assume that's 5.0 and not 5.1. The phone can be paired with the new prepaid plans from Big Red. For $30 per month you get unlimited talk and text, while $45 nets you 1GB of data as well and $60 means you'll receive 3GB of traffic. Source |...

iOS 9.3 public beta is now out

Today Apple has released the first public beta version of iOS 9.3. As expected, this comes mere days after the developer-focused rollout from the beginning of this week. It's the exact same software, so it comes with the exact same new features that we've covered at length in the article regarding the developer release. iOS 9.3 has a multi-user mode for iPads (but which is limited to educational settings for now), even more education-friendly features, Night Shift, secure notes, improvements to apps such as News and Health, as well as more stuff accessible in CarPlay (such as additional sections from Apple Music and Maps). Also in are 3D Touch quick actions for Weather, Settings, Compass, Health, App Store, and iTunes Store. Since this is a big iOS version with so many new things in it, we assume there will be additional betas coming in the...

Samsung to be primary supplier of iPhone OLED panels

There have been a lot of rumors floating around lately of a planned move to OLED panes for future iPhones. The switch is said to take place in 2018, but when we are talking about production on the iPhone scale, preparations definitely need to already be under way. In its current state the OLED market has only a few major players that can hope to even come close to the order volumes Cupertino would require, which is why speculations have involved Samsung as a primary supplier. The two giant's polarized business relationship has also led to some speculations about enlisting Japan Display Inc. for future iPhone display orders, but that seems less likely after a new wave of interesting contracts was unearthed. No official information has been shared on the subject yet by any of the involved parties, but industry sources claim that a contract between Apple and Samsung has already been signed. We can only imagine the severe non-disclosure clauses such a document may have, but in an effort to bring some more believability to the rumor, leaksters have backed it up with a few numbers. Allegedly, Samsung is planning to invest $6.64 billion to $7.47 billion in its display business. This would go towards equipment, plant improvements and staff to enable increased production loads. Allegedly, the investment will be broken down into an initial $2.49B to $3.32B this year to ensure the production of 30 000 to 45 000 OLED sheets per month, followed by an additional $4.17 billion in 2017 for another 45 000 sheets monthly. An Abu Dhabi hotel offers 1.2Gbps internet speed to its guests

Having internet at the hotel you're staying in is somewhat of an expected feature, however, as most of you will surely agree, having an actually working connection is a rarity, let alone one that is free and has adequate bandwidth to do a bit more than check your mail. Hitting all of the above might be considered a godsend by a lot of people working on the go, now more than ever with remote working environments and teleconferencing. Enter the Jannah Burj Al Sarab in Abu Dhabi, which boasts a downstream connection of 1.2 Gbps. This crowns the service as the fastest found within a hotel (and faster than what's available in most homes for that matter). According to the hotel management, the improved speeds come as a result of a recent network upgrade, prior to which the establishment could only boast around 240 Mbps - still a ridiculously good result when compared to your average hotel Internet...

OnePlus teases... ''two things you can't live without''

"What are the two things you can't live without?" A teaser so vague OnePlus had to actually clarify that it's a teaser for "something we've been cooking up." It doesn't help that the picture used in the teaser is of the OnePlus One, the company's original product. Given that it's not either of OP's current devices - the 2 or the X - it could be some good news for owners of the original. It was updated to Cyanogen OS 12.1 recently (that's Android 5.1) and got 6.0 Marshmallow only as an unofficial CyanogenMod 13 port. Is this it? An update? The OnePlus 2 has been confirmed for a Marshmallow update, so maybe. There's OnePlus' own Oxygen OS. Until OnePlus provides a less vague teaser, enjoy the guesses of Twitter followers (hit the source...

Microsoft's Lumia 950 flagship duo has been around for a couple of months, but it's got several promotions and price cuts under its belt already. The Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL are the first to introduce the Windows 10 Mobile in its full glory and Microsoft has shown determination to improve the support for both with regular software updates and bug fixes. The Lumia 950 XL witnessed some good sales during the holiday season and it even went out of stock in certain markets such as USA and Canada. It had some time-exclusive price cuts and promotional freebies in the package, including the Microsoft Display Dock. Meanwhile Microsoft has official cut the price of the Lumia 950 in the UK from £499.99 down to £449.99. You can find it even cheaper in Amazon and Carphone Warehouse. The Microsoft Lumia 950 now costs £399.99 if you opt for the contract-free model on both Amazon UK and Carphone Warehouse. Both black and white flavors are available for purchase. Samsung to produce Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chips on its 14nm FinFET process

It seems Samsung's foundries will have no shortage of orders in the months to come. The company's 14nm FinFET production process, originally developed for its in-house built Exynos chips, has naturally drawn the attention of other chip makers as well. By all accounts, Qualcomm's next powerhouse SoC - the Snapdragon 820, will also be produced by Samsung, using the same 14nm FinFET process intended for its new Exynos 8 Octa chips. The process in question is actually a second generation FinFET, which delivers up to 15% higher speeds and roughly the same improvement in terms of power consumption over its predecessor. It is dubbed LPP(Low-Power Plus) and is an all-round improvement over last-years 14nm LPE process, despite the absence of a subsequent die shrink. This is achieved through the use of fully-depleted FinFET transistors, as well as numerous other improvements to transistor structure and process optimization. This definitely levels out the playing field between Samsung and Qualcomm in their next-gen flagship chipsets, at least to some degree and is definitely beneficial to users in the grand scheme of things, enabling new more powerful and less power hungry devices. However, it still leaves plenty of room for competition in other aspects, most-notably - processor cores architecture. After sticking with standard ARM cores for a while, Samsung has turned to a custom-core solution with the Exynos 8890. Qualcomm has also returned to a custom-core solution with the Snapdragon 820. iPhone 6s miles ahead of 2015 competition in Antutu's latest report

Antutu has released its yearly chart for most powerful smartphones, this year including the iPhone 6s/6s Plus. The new benchmark version 6.0 now comes with iOS support for cross-platform performance comparison, and Apple's latest pair immediately steals the show. Scoring north of 132K points, the iPhone 6s(Plus), as Antutu puts it (similar results from either device are implied), is the most powerful smartphone of 2015. It might have something to do with the inclusion of more thorough graphics testing in the new benchmark version, and Apple's A9 chip has the currently undisputed GPU king inside. Closest to the iPhone 6s, but not really close per se, is the Huawei Mate 8, at almost 93K points. The Kirin 950 chip inside paired with a 1080p display makes for a strong performer. The conservative choice of resolution (FullHD, too) on the Meizu PRO 5 helps it pull ahead of Samsung's own flagships, where the Exynos 7420 has to deal with 78% more pixels. The older-gen iPhone pair comes in sixth, inching ahead of the OnePlus 2, which is the highest-ranked Snapdragon 810 device. It's all Qualcomm's troubled high-end chip from then on, with the LeTV 1Pro, Xiaomi Note Pro and the Nexus 6P rounding up the chart. Source |...

The Asus Live goes official with 5" 720p display and MediaTek SoC

Lo And Behold, Asus finally decided to break away from the chaos it created with the Zenfone moniker and out a new device with a fresh and recognizable title of its own. The Asus Live was just introduced in Brazil, as a new mid-range offer, but while its name stands out, its specs sheet offers a throwback to the Zenfone series and particularly the Zenfone Go. In fact, the new Asus Live seems to be built on practically the same hardware platform. It features a 5" 720p display, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage and is powered by the MediaTek MT6580 SoC. Its camera setup is also identical with an 8MP main shooter with f/2.0 aperture and a 2MP selfie one. Just like its Zenfone cousin, the Live offers Dual SIM support, but lacks LTE and is powered by a 2,070 mAh battery. Even in dimensions, the two devices are strikingly similar with the Asus Live measuring 144.5 x 71 x 9.98 mm and weighing in 5 grams more at 140 grams. This could be due to one of the few differences between the models - the built-in digital TV receiver in the Asus Live (a typical feature for smartphones in Brazil). Also, it is worth noting that the new model is a bit more colorful and offers different dyes on the frame. You can get the Asus Live in Blue, Pink and Yellow for 849 BRL or about $211. Source |...
