Apple iPhone 5s was the top selling smartphone in the U.S. last month

For those who figured that the mid-range Apple iPhone 5c would cannibalize sales of the Apple iPhone 5s, guess again; the new full-featured version of the iPhone managed to lead all four major U.S. carriers in smartphone sales for the month of September even though the phone didn't launch until September 20th. Over the opening weekend, Apple said it sold 9 million units of the two new iPhone iterations...

Nokia Lumia 1020 Leather Case Hands On

Amongst the many accessories that Nokia launched along with the Lumia 1020, like the Wireless charging shell and the Camera Grip we already went hands on with, there was another limited edition accessory that made its way into the list, albeit very silently for any one to notice. And that accessory, as revealed by our friends at the PureViewClub is the Limited Edition Leather Case for the 41 Megapixel Lumia. We were in Hong Kong recently, and were really lucky to get our hands on it. So, here's a photo walkthrough of the case, with our hands on impressions. The case, which is leather on a silicone inner layer, fits like a dream on the Lumia 1020's back with appropriate openings for the ports and a knitted flap for the camera hump, with snap buttons. There is an opening on the back for the wireless charging contacts, which actually makes no sense because the wireless charging shell can't obviously fit over the already thick leather case. It looks weird but feels great in the hand. Also, notice that the back engraving is now just Lumia and not Nokia, like what the renders showed initially. The case definitely makes the Lumia 1020 bulkier, and you ...

LG, Samsung, Google, Intel, Cisco, SAP and others interested in bidding for BlackBerry?

BlackBerry's board, as you probably know, has agreed to sell the company to its biggest stockholder; while Fairfax Financial agreed to pay $4.7 billion or $9 a share for the troubled smartphone manufacturer, under the terms of the deal Fairfax was supposed to deliver a merger agreement to BlackBerry by Friday. Failure to do so would reduce the time that Fairfax would be allowed to conduct its due-diligence...

Ads start appearing in Gmail's promotions file

Last week, we asked the musical question, "are ads coming to the Gmail for Android app?" On Friday, we heard that indeed, they were; and on Saturday morning, we saw the ads start to appear. The ads are beginning to show up in the promotions mail folder, which is not the primary folder must of us use most often. Yeah, Google was able to keep the Android app free of ads up until now, and perhaps that is an achievement...

New leak reiterates November launch for Moto Maker on Verizon

One of the most annoying things about the release of the Motorola Moto X was that the Moto Maker customization software was available only to AT&T customers and no one else. The early rumors on the topic said that Moto Maker would be opening up to other carriers in November, and a new leak is reiterating that claim at least for the Verizon variant of the Moto X...

Nokia Smartwatch Leaked?

Two pictures of a purported Nokia Smartwatch have leaked onto the internet. Could this be announced at the Nokia World event on the 22nd of October, or is it just some long forgotten prototype? We all know that the wearable gadget revolution is here. Google brought its Glass into the limelight with a firm vision(pun intended) on the future, Pebble made its Smartwatch, followed by Samsung with its Galaxy Gear and Sony with its second version of its pioneering Smartwatch. With the leak, it looks like even Nokia, which is all ready to get acquired by Microsoft, has or had its own plans for a wearable gadget. Remember the Nokia Morph concept? The bendable screens and the concept of a wearable gadget is not unknown to one of the largest R&D units in the world, as they have shown off the same with several working prototypes earlier. The innovations were always there, but as times have shown, they have always been restricted to the labs. But this is the first time we are seeing a Nokia branded device that at least looks like a watch. The black strap shown in the image above has uneven holes, which makes one believe they are ...

Microsoft wants Windows Phone to run on HTC’s Android phones – Report

Microsoft is apparently trying to court HTC, one of the major Android OEMs, to make Windows Phone run on its Android Phones, according to a report from Bloomberg. Another report from Android Central claims that HTC engineers are already looking at providing Dual Boot options of Windows Phone and Android for its upcoming devices. This is a surprising turn of events for the software giant, as the company has long stood by its licensing model that doesn't allow this option of dual boot, but things may be changing fast, as the strategy is rapidly moving towards "Devices and Services", especially with the announcement of a Nokia acquisition. The report clearly states that Terry Myerson, the Operating Systems head at Microsoft, asked HTC to make Windows Phone as an option in its Android phones. It's not clear if it's a dual boot option or something akin to a "Google Play Edition" which makes more sense for Microsoft. This way, companies that are making products, can now stop concentrating on making different hardware for Windows Phone and massively cut down costs. Microsoft seems to want to help further by totally subsidizing the license fees for WP8, by providing it almost for free to ...
