Nokia N1 now certified in Indonesia

Soon after it became known that the Nokia N1 was imported to India for testing, information has surfaced that the tablet is also headed for Indonesia. According to the source, the Foxconn-manufactured device has passed certification in the country, suggesting its release is nearing. Exclusive to China at first, the Nokia N1 started to venture into new territories, first in Taiwan in May. Users outside of Asia are in no luck just yet, and the otherwise affordable tablet quickly loses its appeal if you resort to non-official channels to obtain one. The Nokia N1 is a Wi-Fi only device and is powered by an Intel Atom Z3580 chipset with a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, paired with 2GB of RAM. The tablet features a 7.9-inch display with 1,536 x 2,048 pixels resolution and runs Android 5.0. The highlight here is the Z launcher, which presents a different take on interaction with the OS. In case you missed it, you can go ahead and check out our recent review of the N1 for the full...

LG G Pro 3 rumored to come with S820 SoC and 4GB of RAM

The fate of the LG G Pro 3 has been an unclear one and the project was reportedly put on hold a while ago in favor of focusing on the G4. With the mainstream flagship now out and doing well, the company is apparently back on track for releasing a follow-up to the G Pro 2. If this latest leak is to be believed, the high end phablet will sport a large 6-inch display with QHD resolution. You'd not be surprised to hear that the G Pro 3 will likely be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, but it will also have 4GB of RAM, so we could expect some serious multi-window multitasking. There's going to be 32GB of built-in storage as well as a microSD slot for expansion. The sources claim a 20.7MP primary camera and that carries a bit of a Sony vibe, though it could well be the 10:7 Toshiba sensor, utilized in this year's HTC One M9 and the lot. An 8MP selfie shooter will also be on board. The handset is tipped to come with a fingerprint sensor, and we speculate it may be yet another feature to join the camera and the proprietary control layout on the back. That said, LG was believed to be skipping fingerprint reading and jumping straight to iris recognition, but it may be reserved for the G5, indeed. The smartphone is said to be released by the end of the year, but what sounds less exciting is the rumored price. At $790 it's not exactly affordable, though befitting a top-end 6-inch...

Motorola Nexus 6 prices slashed in India

Google's latest and greatest, the Motorola-made Nexus 6 has gotten a substantial price cut in India. Major retailer Flipkart now sells the 32GB version of the device for INR 34,999 (or roughly $550) a good 20% off its regular INR 43,999 asking price. The offer extends to the roomier 64GB version too, which now retails for INR 39,999 ($630), as opposed to the usual INR 48,999. If that's not enough of a good deal for you, the store has an exchange program going on where you can get up to an additional INR 5,000 off the Nexus 6. You can turn in pretty much any smartphone, though some will obviously net you a smaller discount. A quick check showed that the iPhone 4S and Galaxy S4 are good for it. There's no word on how long the offer will be active, so you may be wise to act fast, if you've been eyeing up the Nexus 6 but found it too steep until now. Thanks to Pritesh for the...

Apple iPhone 6s reported to hit the stores on Sept. 18

There's no doubt by now that Apple is set to update its smartphone lineup (yes, both of them) this fall. There's also been the usual amount of rumors and leaks to shed some light on what could be expected. A new report now claims to detail the schedule of the launch, though not all of it looks just right. The believable part is the date the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are scheduled to be available for purchase, despite that it clashes with previous sources. The information, which is said to originate from Foxconn, but in all honesty one could extrapolate, states September 18 as the release date. It lines up nicely with previous generations - the iPhone 6/6 Plus duo was released on September 19 last year, and the iPhone 5S on September 20 back in 2013. What sounds less likely is the date of announcement, which is tipped to be September 11. Neither the world (certainly not the US) would want to see an iPhone on that day, nor would Apple be too happy about the keynote being the second most important event of the day. So while the availability date sounds plausible, we'd expect the major press event to take place a few days earlier than suggested, perhaps around the the 8th or 9th. Source |...

Leaked render shows BlackBerry Venice slider with Android

Earlier today we showed you a partial render of what looked like a supposed Android-running version of the BlackBerry Passport. At the same time, we got word that the BlackBerry device codenamed Venice would eventually be headed to AT&T. Venice has so far been rumored to come out in November with Android on board. And now a leaked render surfaces claiming to depict it in all its glory. The source is once again @evleaks, the famous sometimes retired leaker of all things mobile. He was also the one who brought us the image of the Android-running Passport a few hours ago. The Venice model pictured above is going to be a slider, with a full physical QWERTY keyboard in tow. It should sport a 5.4-inch QHD touchscreen, a 16 MP rear camera, a 5 MP selfie snapper, 3GB of RAM, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 SoC with a hexa-core...

Online retailer Gearbest has started accepting pre-orders for the device, and will start shipping it beginning August 1. The retailer is selling the unlocked 16GB version of the handset for $398, which is a good $108 more than the device's official price. Nokia N1 listed in Zauba, India release imminent

Nokia N1 - the Foxconn-made slate and the first Nokia device from the post-Microsoft era - was sold exclusively in China since the beginning of this year. It was just a month ago, when Nokia managed to finally release the N1 in Taiwan - the second market to get the tablet. Today we have some good news - the Nokia N1 has been listed in Zauba - India's import/export database. As it turns out the tablet is already imported in India for testing and hopefully it will make it to the retail shelves soon enough. The Nokia N1 became popular the minute it was announced and its stock in China was depleted in just minutes. Foxconn had some hard time meeting the demand, apparently it didn't anticipate the high interest. Nokia N1 looks really great on paper - it has a 7.9" Retina-grade IPS display, runs on the powerful Intel Atom Z3580 with a quad-core 2.3GHz processor and 2GB of RAM, there is 32GB storage and 8MP rear cam. The slate runs on Android Lollipop skinned with Nokia's Z Launcher and bets on aluminum unibody. The best part about the Nokia N1 is that it is priced at about $270. While Nokia N1 isn't available with Google Services in China, those come pre-installed in Taiwan and we guess India will get the same treatment. Here is hoping Foxconn manages to push the slate to even more market in the upcoming...

All others in the top 5, including LG, Motorola, and HTC, saw their market shares decline. In terms of mobile OS, Google's Android retained the top spot with 52.1% market share, down from 52.8% it had in January-end. On the other hand, Apple's iOS - which also retained its second position - increased its market share by 1.8pp to 43.5%. Google to launch a new Android One phone in India this month

Google will launch a new Android One smartphone on July 14, according to an Economic Times report. The device, which will be manufactured by local company Lava, will carry a price tag of around INR 12,000 ($190). While Indian vendors weren't involved in the design and development of the first batch of Android One smartphones (shown in the image above), the latest handset has been developed in close collaboration with Lava and MediaTek, the report notes. Known specs of the device include MediaTek SoC, 2GB RAM, and 5-inch display. It's a known fact that the demand for Android One devices never really picked up in India. One of the main reasons for this is said to be the lack of availability in retail stores. However, this time around, the search giant is making sure that the device is available through all channels, the report...

Samsung Galaxy S6 Duos receives Android 5.1.1 update

Despite the fact that it isn't being sold in that many markets, it's now time for the Samsung Galaxy S6 Duos to get its taste of the absolute latest version of Android, namely 5.1.1 Lollipop. The single-SIM version of the Galaxy S6 has been on the receiving end of this particular iteration of Android for a few weeks now, depending on region and carrier. As you can see from the screengrab to the left, in the case of the dual-SIM Galaxy S6 Duos, the download will be around 620MB in size if you choose to apply the update over-the-air. You can obviously do that, but if for some reason you don't get the update notification on your phone, you can always turn to Kies, Samsung's desktop PC app, for help. You should be able to install the new software using it too. For now, the rollout seems to be confined to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates. However, it's sure to spread to other markets soon. Just as the changelog in the screenshot notes, aside from bumping up the Android version, the new software also brings with it some unnamed security enhancements, improved UI and system stability, and performance...

Analyst predicts Apple Watch sales will start slowing down fast

Smartwatches are still a developing niche, so there is quite a lot of uncertainty in the market. Still, if someone was going to make it big selling the odd accessories, Apple would be the best bet. Despite all the company's marketing efforts to push the Watch, it seems initial buzz has started wearing off and sales are heading for a significant decline. At least, that is what Brad Hargreaves predicts. The leading analyst at Pacific Crest Securities and has worked on Apple Watch forecasts in the past. As Brad clarified in a note to his clients, the Apple Watch should still manage to meet and perhaps even exceed the 5.5 million sales, he predicted for Q1 2015. Then however enthusiasm is quickly predicted to fade away - sales in the third and fourth fiscal quarters, which he initially estimated at 11 million, have been slashed to 10.5 and numbers decrease even more drastically for 2016 - 21 million watches, instead of 24 million. Brad Hargreaves bases his prediction on quite a lot of indicators: Store visits, Google search volume, third-party data and recent supply checks all suggest demand for Apple Watch has fallen sharply from initial levels, Google search statistics were also tabbed for extra info, so the research seems to be fairly extensive. Still, we just have to wait and see if the future is quite as gloomy for the Apple Watch and where such a scenario leaves other wearables as well. Source |...

Exclusive: iPhone 6s duo to be thicker, case sketches confirm

The case maker ITSKINS will be starting work on its lineup for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Naturally it got the official dimensions for the devices and those are clearly visible by the sketches below. While the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will look exactly like the current sixth generation, they will be a hair thicker. The iPhone 6s should be 7.0 mm tick, up 0.1mm from the iPhone 6, while the iPhone 6s Plus will be 7.13mm - up just 0.03mm from the 7.1 thick 6 Plus model. The extra thickness is somewhat of a confirmation of the Force Touch display, which requires some extra space. The rumor has been around for quite some time and after the new MacBook Pro lineup and Apple Watch, the iPhone 6s duo will be next to get the pressure-sensitive technology. The Force Touch display, also hinted in the code of iOS 9, will allow for new gestures on the iPhones. The iPhone 6s smartphones are reportedly entering production, so it makes sense the case maker begin theirs as well. The iPhone 6s should be unveiled in September with better chipset, a 12MP camera, LTE Cat.6 capable modem, and maybe a USB-C connectivity...

Apple iPhone 6s duo to come with LTE Cat.6 modem

A new leaked picture of the next generation iPhone 6s motherboard suggest Apple will be using a new Qualcomm modem, which will allow for LTE Cat.6 connectivity and will reduce the energy consumption.
