Google Home Hub and Chromecast Ultra bundle goes for $119, saves you $99

A pretty nice Google bundle deal is live on BuyDig.com, netting buyers $99 in savings. If you're after a Home Hub plus Chromecast Ultra combo, you can grab those now for a total of $119 as opposed to the $218 combined list price. Effectively, you're buying a Home Hub at $30 off (its list price is $149) and getting a Chromecast Ultra for free in the process. Or whatever rationalization is needed to justify your consumerist habits. Interestingly enough, there's no mention of the deal on the site - add them to the cart and the discount is applied automatically. The Hom Hub and...

Chrome OS build 72 brings native Assistant integration and PIP

Chrome OS version 72 is now rolling out, having moved from beta to official release. It brings native Google Assistant integration, Picture-in-Picture video playback, changes to the Cast UI and security improvements, plus wider Android Pie adoption. Assistant will now be natively available on all Chromebooks. Instead of being sidelined in the bottom left corner (like on the Pixelbook), it takes center stage and is treated to a larger window (like on the Pixel Slate below). Otherwise, it does the same Assistant-y things as on any other device, responding to 'Hey, Google', answering...

Hypothetical Moto RAZR 2019 rendered on video, looks cool

The rebirth of the Moto RAZR has been an ongoing topic recently. The schematics of a hypothetical Moto RAZR 2019 were spotted in a patent filing last month and were quickly followed by an artist's rendition showing us what the follow-up to one of the most iconic mobile devices could look like. Another crack at it comes in today in the form of a concept video by Waqar Khan. The clip is full of Moto RAZRs opening up and closing, there are several color schemes the author has come up with, and there's also a few UI solutions suggested like the notifications handling on the outer...

The Oreo update for Nokia 2 to go live soon, beta testing has ended

The Nokia 2's software fate is a bit odd - the entry-level smartphone launched in 2017 on Nougat, and with just 1GB of RAM on board, it was deemed problematic to boot the more demanding Oreo once it was time for update. So Nokia came up with the idea to make the update optional - you either stay on Nougat for faster user experience, or you go Oreo and lose some UI snappiness. Well, the Oreo build is now apparently almost ready for release. Members of the beta program have received emails that the testing phase has concluded and the update is close to being official. It'll bring Android...

Samsung Galaxy M30 dimensions and layout leaks

Soon after Samsung announced the Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 in India, there is a third M-series device in the pipeline. A new leak from PriceKart.com shows a Galaxy M30 on a schematic diagram akin to one that you'd see in a user manual. Like the other two Galaxy M phones, the M30 will have a gradient finish in both black and blue. There's a fingerprint scanner on the back like the M20, but the clearest difference between the M20 and the M30 is one additional camera. This triple camera is said to be made up of a 13MP camera, and two other 5MP sensors, with presumably a wide and a telephoto...

Although not very clear, the photos show a very tall display. According to the source, these were screen grabs from a live video that has since been...

2019 iPhones to come with varying notch sizes, maybe even USB-C

A new rumor today comes to purportedly shine some light onto Apple's iPhone plans for this year. The XS, XS Max, and XR are all getting successors. Interestingly, it's said that the next XR will have a wider notch than the successor to the XS Max, for unclear reasons. On the other hand the company has also made prototypes with a smaller notch, so it's unclear which will end up being the final design. On the same note, once again Apple is rumored to consider switching to the USB-C connector and finally killing off its proprietary Lightning port. Prototypes with either option are being...

iOS 12.1.4 is now out, fixing Group FaceTime eavesdropping bug

The major security issue in Group FaceTime that was unveiled late last month is now finally fixed with the iOS 12.1.4 update that started rolling out to all supported Apple devices today. We've received some exclusive inside information on the Samsung Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+. A lucky insider who got a chance to play with them reports that all three flagship phones will premiere a new Super AMOLED display with support for 10-bit color processing (similar to what YouTube and Netflix use) but we don't know how it will differ from the Galaxy S9 and Note9. The punch hole will host a new 10MP selfie snapper with OIS, dual pixel autofocus and 4K video capture. The second front camera on the Galaxy S10+ is a depth-sensing unit. Our tipster says the in-display...

Sony Xperia XA product images show a 21:9 screen, just like the XZ4

The Sony Xperia XA3 may not be what we thought it wouldbe - new product images have surfaced that show a 21:9 screen on the front, the same aspect ratio as the XZ4 flagship. Leakster @rquandt has been dropping hints that the CAD-based renders didn't show the front correctly. And now he just dropped a cache of product images. The back looks the same with the horizontal dual camera, but the front is different indeed. Sony Xperia XA3 with a 21:9 screen The screen should have a 1,080 x 2,560px resolution to cover the extra height. The diagonal is unknown as it's not quite clear...

Spotify has just released its quarterly financial reports and the numbers are looking good for the Swedish company. The Huawei P30 will be unveiled at the end of March in Paris

In a press release detailing business plans in Poland, Huawei has let it slip that the Huawei P30 series will be unveiled in Paris at the end of March. This was tucked in the bottom of a press release that mainly announced that the company will double the staff at its Polish office by hiring 100 new employees. Huawei seems undeterred by the recent arrest of two of its Polish executives over spying allegations. Huawei is the market leader in the country (with a 33.4% share in 2018), in large part thanks to the strong sales of the P20 and Mate 20 phones. The local division also sells...

Sony is working on another flagship with a more common aspect ratio

Sony model names follow a simple scheme - the letter indicates the year. For example, "H" was used for 2018 phones (XZ2, XZ3, XA2, L2), "G" for 2017 models (XA1, XZ1, etc.) and so on. So, what do you make of this? The User Agent profiles for three Sony units were discovered - J8110, J8170 and J9110 (we think they are the same model, see below). The "I" generation wasn't skipped over, there are UA profiles for the likes of I4113 (likely XA3) and I4312 (L3). So, we wouldn't have expected to see J-phones until 2020. And look at that resolution, 1,440 x 2,880px. That's a pure 16:9 or...

Apple update iPhone 7 and 8 to deal with Germany sales ban

A German court issued a sales ban on the iPhone 7, iPhone 8 and their respective Plus models for infringing on a Qualcomm Envelope tracking patent. To get around this, Apple has informed local stores that it's building new units, which will be available in about four weeks. The court ruled that iPhones sold in Germany, which use chips supplied by Intel and Qorvo, infringe on Qualcomm patents. Apple will source different chips to get around this issue. The US also found that Intel chips infringe on a Qualcomm patent, but refused to ban them (saying it would hamper competition)....
