WhatsApp's 'View Once' feature for photos and videos expands to voice messages

WhatsApp rolled out the "View Once" feature for photos and videos in August 2021, letting users send self-destructing pictures and videos. Now, WhatsApp has expanded that feature to voice messages. The View Once for voice messages, which should've been called Hear Once, works like it does for photos and videos. An audio message you send to the recipient can neither be heard by the recipient again after it's opened nor be saved on their phone. The sender also can't listen to it after it's sent. The View Once audio message will also display a label reading "Opened" after the message is...

Oppo Find X7 and X7 Pro appear with 100W charging on 3C

The Oppo Find X7 series is expected to arrive soon, and today two phones were certified on 3C. The devices are probably the Find X7 and Find X7 Pro, which will support 100W fast charging. The 11V/9.1A rate is nothing new to the Pro, as it was the same as the predecessor. The vanilla, on the other hand, is getting a slight increase since the X6 came with just 80W. Both the PHY110 and PHZ110 will work with the VCBAJACH charger that has been part of Oppo's portfolio in 2023. The adapter supports all SuperVOOC rates, but the listing says nothing on whether the Find X7 and X7 Pro will...

According to a patent granted to Apple, the company is working on a device called "Modular Light Assembly For A Wearable Device," which is "designed for integration with wearable devices." It can be connected externally to a smartwatch's housing and its band. The schematic included in the patent gives us a fair idea of what the future Apple Watches could...

Flashback: Symbian Belle almost caught up to Android, but it was too late

Last time we looked back at Nokia’s attempt to modernize Symbian with Anna, but that was only the first step. The next was called Belle, which brought the long-lived OS even closer to the modern design of its Android and iOS competitors. Belle brought important quality of life changes that made the interface much more pleasant and usable. However, there’s no escaping that Symbian was playing catch-up to its rivals. Let’s start with the basics and we do mean “basics”. First, the homescreen got a massive overhaul – you could now have up to 6 panes, up from 3 in Anna. And instead of the...

Weekly poll: how much RAM is enough?

Bill Gates might not have actually said “640K ought to be enough for anybody”, but how much is enough? Android Go edition phones come with one or two gigs, mid-rangers often have 4-6GB, then flagships start at 8GB and go all the way up to 24GB. These number vary by brand, of course. You won’t get more than 12GB out of Samsung or Google, Apple won’t even go that far and the iPhone 15 Pro Max has 8GB of RAM. Other brands will happily put 16GB in a mid-ranger. The first smartphone with 24GB of RAM arrived a few months ago, it was the Red Magic 8S Pro+. A gaming phone, of course. Since...
