Yet, there is still plenty of mystery to unravel, mostly related to vivo's new in-house ISP camera chip solution - the V1 - recently announced and said to debut in the X70 line. Xiaomi is testing MIUI Pure Mode - extra protection from installing malicious apps

Xiaomi has always treated MIUI with plenty of respect, care and attention, as technically its first and still one of its most successful products. Things are going great with the latest MIUI 12.5, as well as the later-unveiled 12.5 Enhanced Edition, which are already making their way on to international units. MIUI 13 is also right around the corner, slated for a late June release and Xiaomi also recently invested in something called a Pioneer Team, specifically tasked with gathering and addressing MIUI user feedback. One of the best ways to keep an eye on potential upcoming MIUI features are...

All Samsung Galaxy A series devices will have OIS next year, rumor says

This year Samsung started offering optical image stabilization (OIS) on the main cameras of a few of its mid-range Galaxy A series devices, such as the A52 and A72. Next year, however, things will be different. According to a new unconfirmed report from Korea, Samsung is likely to add OIS to the main cameras of all of the A series models it's going to launch in 2022. That would be an unprecedented 'democratization' of this feature that has, until this year, been reserved for flagships (and very few flagship killers) only. If Samsung pulls this off, it will have an important...

Canalys: Smart wearables shipments grew in Q2 2021 thanks to smartwatches

The global smart wearable market has been growing for many consecutive quarters now but there's a noticeable shift in the smart bands/smartwatches dynamic that started in Q4 2020 when smartwatches became the main driving factor for growth. The decline was offset by the full-fledged smartwatches as they grew an impressive 37.9% year-over-year and now account for 62% of the global sales. HarmonyOS 2.0 reaches 90 million users, 8 new users are added every second

Huawei set an ambitious goal for HarmonyOS 2.0 – to reach 300 million devices by the end of the year. That’s a big number, but doesn’t sound impossible as the new OS is expanding quickly: it was at 10 million users in early June, 70 million at the end of August and days later it has shot up by another 20 million users. That brings the total to 90 million. Okay, we should clear some things up. First, these numbers actually count the devices running HarmonyOS, which may not correspond to users one to one (i.e. someone may have multiple devices). Still, that’s quite impressive. Motorola Edge (2021) undergoes teardown on video, isn't very easily repairable

Back in mid-August Motorola unveiled its newest upper-midrange smartphone for the North American market, which the company confusingly calls Motorola Edge (like the original Edge from last year). Trying to keep our sanity we're going to refer to it as the Edge (2021). This phone is supposed to become available today at Best Buy, B&H, Amazon, and Motorola.com for an introductory price of $500 (which is apparently $200 off the normal price of $700). If, before you place your order, you were curious to see the Motorola Edge (2021) from the inside, then YouTube channel PBKreviews has you...

Mobile data traffic surged in 2021, the global average price per gigabyte is $4.07

67% of the world’s population, some 5.3 billion people, owned a mobile phone in July, according to data by Stock Apps. Compared to July of last year, this means 117 million new users. Of course, this is not evenly distributed around the globe – for example, Europe was the leading region last year with 86% of its population having a mobile phone. However, the market is essentially saturated as the forecast for 2025 is 87%, so barely any growth is expected in the next few years. North America is very close, just a few percentage points behind. China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan combined...

One of the highlight features of Windows 11 is the ability to natively run Android apps. However it appears those looking forward to that will have to show some extra patience. In an announcement on its website yesterday Microsoft said that the Android apps support won't be available at launch on October 5. It will make it available for Insider users in the following months, though. The good news is that the rest of the highlight Windows 11 features will be available in the first stable release such as new UI, new Start menu and gaming-related enhancements. Source

South Korea lets developers bypass Apple and Google's app stores fees

Apple and Google have been under fire regarding their app stores fees for quite some time now. The US, the EU and the UK are all investigating the possibility of Apple and Google infringing several antitrust laws but South Korea is the first country to take action. The country's president Moon Jae-in and his party passed a bill yesterday that would free Korean developers from the App Store and Google Play Store's fees as well as in-app transaction fees. They are usually 30% but both companies lowered that to 15% for small developers. Still, mobile app revenue in 2020 brought in a total...
