Six upcoming Alcatel smarthpones show up in leaked render

Alcatel has been keeping rather busy these past few months, with at least 12 new handsets under its belt since the beginning of 2017. That number is probably conservative if we take into account the company's flexible business model, aimed at easy device customization and catering to carrier needs. Hence, it comes as no surprise that most Alcatel-related leaks come in bulk. Like the latest image, uncovered by reputable leakster Evan Blass, which pictures a total of six upcoming devices. However, these are not dollar-grade models for carriers to give out with contracts, but rather Alcatel's...

Another Huawei Mate 10 Lite render leaks online

Huawei's October 16 unveiling event for the Mate 10 family is only hours away now and leaks have been intensifying accordingly. Interestingly enough, despite all the effort from various sources, we still can't quite zone in on exactly how the announcement lineup will look. The regular Mate 10 is a given and the Pro variant has been so extensively discussed, we can only assume it exists as well. Rumors and past experience also suggest there will be a special Porsche Design variant somewhere in there too. Samsung Mobile Philippines just added two more variants to the already confusing pool of Galaxy J7 handsets. This was confirmed by the company on its official Weibo account today. A short two-second video shows the outline of the new AI-focused chipset that Huawei is promoting for some time. On the inside of the square, the symbol of the company and the logo of the OS are next to each other. This would've been vague, but the video is accompanied by the text: "Equipped with Android 8.0 to give you a better Android experience....

Oculus Go unveiled: a $200 standalone VR headset

The Oculus team shook up the VR market with several big announcements. First is a permanent price cut to $400 for the Rift. Then there's a new VR headset - the Oculus Go - and finally, an update on the Santa Cruz prototype. You can think of the Oculus Go as a standalone Gear VR. It does not need a phone inside it, but it can't stream the game video from a PC either. The games run on the device itself and there's already a library of titles - the Gear VR games specifically. (Android isn't mentioned anywhere, but it has to be, right?) For game control and interaction there is a single...

US won't get Nokia 8, HMD confirms

While there have been strong indications that the Nokia 8 is headed to the United States, sadly, HMD has now confirmed that won't be the case. The company has made it clear that the device won't be launched in the US at all. Rex Fryhover, head of sales of HMD US revealed this in a reply to a user query on email. The reason, the executive said, is that the phone is not "properly banded" for the country. He did offered some hope to the Nokia fans in the US by saying they are developing a device portfolio with the US market as their main focus. Via

T-Mobile adds a data cap to it's "Mobile Without Borders" program

A couple of years ago, T-Mobile announced "Mobile Without Borders" feature, which allows T-Mobile customers to roam to Canada or Mexico with full 4G LTE speeds and without roaming fees. The new feature was part of Magenta's ‘Un-Carrier Amped' campaign which beat one-upped AT&T's announcement at the time to make roaming in Mexico free. Anyway, the feature has had enough time to mature and for T-Mobile to figure out the cost-effectiveness of the feature and what the actual usage has been. According to T-Mobile, less than 1% of those who travel to Mexico and Canada use less than 5GB of...

Apple releases iOS 11.0.3 update for iPhone and iPad

Apple has released the iOS 11.0.3 update for iPhone and iPad. The update is about 285MB in size and comes shortly after the iOS 11.0.2 update that came out just last week. This is a bug fix update and focuses on two main issues. The first is an issue with audio and haptic feedback on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which would not work in some cases. The other is a touch input responsiveness issue on the iPhone 6s units serviced with non-genuine parts. Apple also took this moment to warn against the use of non-genuine replacement displays, which could have compromised visual...

HTC sees monthly revenues double for September

HTC has announced that it saw consolidated revenue for September 2017 of NT$6.51 bn (US$215 million). This represents more than double the revenue for August 2017 of NT$3,00 bn. It would be a safe guess to say that revenues have likely been boosted by shipments to Google of the recently launched Google Pixel 2 which HTC manufactures. However, the big picture is less positive as this represents a 30% decline Year-On-Year. Monthly Consolidated Revenue Let's see if HTC can finish the year strong as it's rumored to be launching several new phones before the year is out, one of...

Apple is working with LG Display on a foldable iPhone for 2020

The soon to be released iPhone X may be a revolutionary step forward for Apple's smartphone designs, but it will by no means be the last. In fact, what could be considered an even bigger leap is expected to arrive in three years. That is if a new report from South Korea turns out to be accurate. It claims that Apple has teamed up with LG Display to develop a foldable iPhone. The handset could go on sale in 2020. Not only is LG's screen-making subsidiary working alongside Apple on the project, but the parts-making LG Innotek has also set up a team to develop the necessary flexible circuit...
