Android 12.1 is all about improving foldable phone experience

XDA Developers unearthed some interesting stuff about an upcoming incremental update to Android 12, likely called Android 12.1. We don't know the full scope of features for now, but it's possible that most of them, if not all, are aimed towards improving the foldable phone experience. It's also possible that this a move to prepare for the foldable Pixel phone release. Screenshots taken from a tablet running a beta version of Android 12 In any case, XDA Developers spotted a docked taskbar feature in earlier beta builds of Android 12 and has found a tutorial along with some strings...

Report: Apple's AirPods 3 still in the pipeline, already in production

After a series of leaks about the AirPods 3 with the start of 2021, we were kind of surprised that Apple didn't unveil them during its iPhone 13 event this week. Well, according to Digitimes report, the pair of TWS buds is coming later this year since the company has already started production. Unfortunately, the report is quite brief and doesn't delve into details and doesn't give any specific release date. It only says that Apple is on track of releasing the AirPods 3 until the end of this year and that they would be ever so slightly pricier than their predecessors, the AirPods 2,...

iPadOS 15 to increase the RAM cap for apps

Apple's iPad Pro is advertised as a worthy substitute of your laptop but there's one thing that's holding it back and Apple fixes it with the iPadOS 15. We are talking about the 5GB RAM limit imposed on third-party apps by the OS. Reportedly, this cap has been increased. Some power users, mostly designers and other creative professionals, use demanding apps on their M1-powered iPad Pros so limiting them to use just 5GB of RAM reduces the performance of the said apps. Sure, by doing this, Apple is ensuring that the system would run fluently no matter what apps you are using and reserves...

Huawei Mate 50 may arrive in October after all

Back in June, reports claimed that Huawei was no longer planning to release another flagship following the P50 series, which launched back in July. It was reported and heavily speculated that Huawei wouldn't be releasing a proper Mate series, likely due to both the US-Huawei ban and supply chain constraints. A new report from a senior expert of the DSCC (Display Supply Chain Consultants) claims that the Mate series flagship is still planned for release in Q4 of this year. OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro update adds Hasselblad XPan mode for the camera

OnePlus today started rolling out OxygenOS version 11.2.9.9 for the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro. This update brings with it a new camera mode, called XPan. The XPan mode is a reference to the Hasselblad XPan, a rebranded version of the dual-format Fuji TX-1 camera launched in the late 90s. Apart from shooting on 35mm film, this camera could also shoot in a wider 65mm format for panoramas in a 65:24 (or 2.7:1) aspect ratio. The XPan mode on the OnePlus 9 series aims to emulate this. You launch this mode from the mode selection screen. This brings up a new UI with the 65:25...

Samsung Galaxy S22 to feature 3,700 mAh battery and 25W charging

Prominent leakster Ice Universe has been on a Samsung Galaxy S22 spree in the past week revealing chipset and camera details as well as charging speeds for the S22 Ultra. The latest leaks surround the smaller Galaxy S22 which is reported to feature a 3,700 mAh battery with 25W charging support. The interesting bit here is that the S22+ and S22 Ultra will do 45W charging which is quite the disparity between the three models. You’ll still have to shell out more money for the actual charger as Samsung will most likely not provide one in the box. Elsewhere, the S22 is said to be smaller...

When Apple announced the new iPad mini (2021) it came as a bit of a surprise that it used the latest and greatest Apple chipset, the A15 Bionic. First AnTuTu score from iPhone 13 Pro shows faster CPU, GPU and memory than the 12 Pro

The iPhone 13 announcement came with the reveal of the new Apple A15 chipset and (as always) Apple said it is the fastest smartphone chip in the world. Interestingly, the chip inside the iPhone 13 vanilla and mini had a 4-core GPU (as usual), while the one inside the iPhone 13 Pro, Pro Max and the new iPad mini had 5-cores (quite possibly the result of different binning intended to stave off chip supply issues).
