Alleged HTC One M9+ press images appear on Twitter

Alleged press renders of the upcoming HTC One M9+ made the rounds on Twitter, courtesy of @upleaks. The high-end smartphone is going to make its official debut next month, on April 8 in Beijing. In line with past leaks, the press images showcase the upcoming handset is a rather eye-catching black/gold color scheme. The latter is not available on the HTC One. Shortly thereafter, @upleaks posted a closeup shot of the area below the display of the smartphone. A homescreen button which is likely a home to a fingerprint sensor splits the BoomSound speaker of the device. The circular camera of the handset should hardly catch anyone by surprise. It has already appeared in live photos. HTC One M9 Plus might debut with two different chipsets - a MediaTek MT6795 model could cater to the Chinese market, while a Snapdragon 810 version will be sold elsewhere. The rest of the device's rumored specs include 5.2" QHD display, fingerprint scanner, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of expandable memory. Source...

Upcoming Windows 10 for phones build will work on more devices

Microsoft has announced that the next build of the Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones will support a lot more devices. "I get a ton of questions every day on Twitter about when your favorite phones will be usable, and I'm happy to report that the vast majority will be supported with the next flight," said Windows Insider manager Gabriel Aul in a blog post. Aul explained that the reason the first build, which was released last month, supported a limited number of devices was that the company had to select from the set of phones that had sufficient system partition sizes configured by the manufacturer. He, however, added that the problem has been resolved by implementing a feature called "partition stitching", using which they can now re-size the system partition dynamically and hence support a larger set of phones. Hit the Source link below to see the list of phones that the software giant expects to support in the next build. "If, during our testing, we find a device specific bug it MAY be pulled from the list," Aul said. Source |...

LG G4 to arrive at the end of April, rumor says

The LG G4 has been in the news for quite a while now, the most recent purported leak about it being from mere hours ago - and surfacing the image you can see to the left, which might show it. All this said, you may be wondering when to expect it to actually launch. It turns out that you may not have a lot of waiting to do from this point on. That is, if the latest rumor on the matter is in fact true. According to "industry sources" in LG's native South Korea, the G4 is set to become available at the end of April. This means its official unveiling will take place in the next few weeks. Last year, the G3 was announced in May and released in June, so this means the G4 will be up for grabs around ten months after LG's previous top of the line offering. The company is clearly feeling the pressure from Samsung, which is rolling out its Galaxy S6 and S6 edge in mid-April, and probably wants to respond as soon as it can. As for specs, we're apparently going to see a screen size "in the 5-inch range like its predecessor, the G3". This will have QHD (2,560x1,440) resolution, and will sport a "curved touch". This may have been revealed by the aforementioned leaked images, and has been rumored before. Analysts expect LG to sell 15 million G4s in one year, with 9.2 million of those sales happening in 2015. It should do better than the G3 in this regard. Source |...

Huawei's next Honor smartphone seemingly leaks in pictures

Huawei's Honor line of affordable yet not underpowered smartphones is enjoying more and more success. With this lineup, the Chinese company has emulated Xiaomi's sales model somewhat, opting to mostly get rid of intermediaries and sell directly to consumers. Soon, Huawei is apparently due to launch the Honor brand in Russia. And on that occasion, it's also going to unveil a new handset. Pictures showing it from a lot of angles have made it to Russian media today. Leaked upcoming Huawei Honor smartphone Along with the images come a few specs. The new Honor device should reportedly sport a 5-inch touchscreen, a 13 MP rear camera, a 5 MP selfie snapper, 4G LTE, dual-SIM support, and long battery life (though the exact capacity is unknown for now). The chipset employed will be 64-bit and come with an octa-core CPU, but no other details have surfaced yet. Given past events though we assume this to be made by HiSilicon, Huawei's mobile chipset developing arm. More images showing leaked upcoming Honor device Judging by the shapes of the three Android navigation buttons, this Honor phone should run the fifth iteration of Google's mobile OS, also known as Lollipop. Obviously though, Huawei is expected to plaster its own Emotion UI on top of that, as always. In Russia, the yet-unnamed smartphone will apparently retail for RUB 13,000 to RUB 15,000, which means $226 to $261 at the current exchange rates. Source (in...

BlackBerry ends Q4 on a $28 million profit

BlackBerry's financial results for Q4 are out showing the company managed to end it on a profit. For the three-month period ending on February 28, BlackBerry reports a net profit of $28 million, while a year earlier the company's situation wasn't rosy with a $148 million loss. While many analysts predicted a revenue of around $790 million, BlackBerry reported it to be slightly lower at $660 million. The company's software division plays a major role in the revenue bump, as it generated $67 million compared to Q4 2013. This is good indication that BlackBerry's efforts to shift its revenue model from hardware-driven to software-driven could end positively for the company. Finally, BlackBerry is finally boasting a positive cash flow of $76 million, as the days of its financial turmoils hopefully far...

Huawei details Kirin 930 chipset, says it uses enahnced A53E cores

Huawei made significant progress with its in-house chipsets and after the flop that the Kirin 910 turned out to be in the Ascend P7, the following iterations were markedly better. Both the Kirin 920 inside the Honor 6 and the Kirin 925 that powered the Ascend Mate7 proved to be strong performers. Now with the Huawei P8 just around the corner, the Chinese company disclosed more detailed info on the Kirin 930 that is set to be the brains of the flagship smartphone, as well as the already announced MediaPad X2 7-inch tablet. Contrary to previous reports, the processor inside the SoC apparently features a reworked version of the Cortex-A53 cores, dubbed Cortex-A53E, which is clocked all the way up to 2.0GHz. Four of these are used as performance cores in the big.LITTLE setup, while four of the vanilla 1.2GHz A53's take on more casual tasks. Huawei refrained from using the more powerful Cortex-A57 cores, because they provide a modest 56% performance increase versus a massive 256% increase in power consumption over the Cortex-A53, the company claims. Knowing how Huawei CEO feels on battery life, there's no surprise in the reasoning behind the choices made. We're yet to get our hands on a working device utilizing the new SoC at the office, so we'll reserve judgement until that...

New flagship of HTC Desire line gets its specs leaked

It seems HTC has been hard at work on new devices lately. Just a few hours ago, word came out, that the Taiwanese manufacturer is planning to hit the Chinese market with an array of new devices and now another leak has surfaced, providing information about a new budget device in the works. The information is courtesy of Upleaks, but like always, should be taken with a grain of salt. The new smartphone, dubbed HTC A50AML, although this is sure to be replaced by a catchier moniker at some point, will be a budget offer. Yet, the leaked specs show that it will boast a 4MP UltraPixel front camera, just like the One M9. If HTC has opted to include their UltraPixel sensors in budget devices, they could really give competitors a run for their money. The HTC A50AML, codenamed project CM650 will be courtesy of Longcheer Technology, and OEM for HTC and will actually come in two versions - a basic and a premium one. As far as we can currently tell, the main difference between the two will be the front camera, namely that the basic model will come with a 13MP sensor, without UltraPIxel technology. The leaked specs also reveal that the alleged handset will be powered by an MediaTek MT6752 chipset with octa-core CPU clocked at 1.6 GHz, so there is definitely some movement in chipset selection within HTC. Similarly, the HTC T1H tablet we mentioned earlier will pack an Allwinner chip, so perhaps HTC is moving away from Qualcomm Snaprdagon chips and shifting to other solutions in its low and mid-range devices. We wouldn't be surprised if this tendency extends to flagship models in the future, as well, especially, after the most recent round of overheating allegations around the HTC One M9. Other specs on the A50AML include a 13MP rear camera, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. Naturally, the handset would come with Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box, with HTC's own Sense UI on top. There is no information about pricing or availability at this point. Source |...

HTC T1H tablet leaked specs point to an AllWinner SoC

According to rumors, HTC is preparing to hit hard on the Chinese market. We have already heard news of the One M9, M9 Plus, as well as the E9 and perhaps even an E9 Plus, which should be hitting store is the growing Asia market pretty soon. But HTC might have yet another device up its sleeve - an 8.9-inch tabled, dubbed the T1H. It will probably be joining the ranks of the aforementioned phones in an official unveiling in Beijing this April, but the date and venue are still unconfirmed. A pretty detailed specs sheet for the T1H has slipped through the cracks, as well as an alleged live photo of the unit which looks strikingly similar to the One M9, only a lot bigger. According to the rumor, the upcoming tablet will measure 228.35mm x 153.67mm x 7.88 mm with a 8.9-inch QXGA 2048 × 1530 pixel display. Interestingly enough, HTC have opted for an Allwinner SoC, instead of a more traditional Qualcomm or Mediatek solution. The chip in question is the octa-core Allwinner H8, which is built using a new 28mm production process and features the PowerVR SGX544 as its GPU. Other specs include 2GB of RAM and a choice between either 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage. Camera setup, consist of 8MP shooter on the back and a 1.6MP front-facing one. The device is going to be powered by a spacious 6,700 mAh battery and should run Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box with the HTC Sense UI on top. Source (in Chinese) |...

Oppo N1 gets official Cyanogen CM11S ROM

Oppo N1 was launched in 2013 with an innovative rotating camera lens, top-notch hardware and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS skinned with Oppo's Color launcher. The N1 was also the first phone to receive an official Cyanogen treatment as a collaboration with Cyanogen and Oppo. You are able to choose between the CM10.2 ROM based on the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean or the default Color OS by Oppo. You can switch any time you want. Today, almost year and a half later Cyanogen continues to support the Oppo N1 and launched an official CM11S (KitKat-based) ROM. The highlights of the new ROM are the support for the O-Touch panel and O-Click remote, plus some default Oppo apps, which makes the CM-skinned Android look closet to the Oppo's Color OS. If you have a Cyanogen-running Oppo N1 or want to switch to Cyanogen Mod now, you can follow the source link below and get the update file. Here is hoping Cyanogen sweetens the Oppo N1 with a Lollipop-treatment later this year with a CM12...

Asus Zenfone 2 arrives in India on April 13

Asus caused quite the stir back in January, when it announced the Zenfone 2, which would pack a high-end Intel Atom chipset alongside 4GB of RAM, and cost $200 in the meantime. As it later turned out, that wasn't quite the case and the price was for a lower-specced model, while the top dog gravitates around the $280 mark. Either way, the highly-anticipated Asus smartphone is on its way to India, with a reported launch event scheduled for April 13. Asus is delivering on its promise for a Q2 launch, and they proved to be pretty quick about it. Not only that, but the company has chosen to offer only the top-of-the-range model, at least in the beginning. The Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML comes with a 5.5-inch FullHD screen, as opposed to lesser models which either pack a 5-incher or 720p resolution, or both. The ZE551ML moniker is still not entirely indicative of the configuration though, as multiple RAM and storage options are available. The highest specs include an Intel Atom Z3580 chipset with a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, but according to the report only the 16GB/32GB options will be available in India. In any case a microSD slot provides potential expansion to those who need it. Other than that, the smartphone comes with LTE connectivity, 13MP/5MP camera combo, 3,000mAh battery and Lollipop out of the box, for a comprehensive package on a...

Alleged live photos of LG G4 make the rounds online

A quartet of alleged live photos of the unannounced LG G4 made the rounds online. The images were posted on the web by a crafty member XDA Developers. In line with past reports, the photos reveal that LG G4 will pack a stylus. The accessory is located in the top right corner of the smartphone and will allow it to go head to head with Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Overall, the design of the LG G4 appears to follow closely that of its predecessors, LG G2 and LG G3. The device appears to sport a slightly curved display - once again in line with past rumors. The images reveal that the G4 boots Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. Naturally, the OS has been heavily customized by LG. Set to debut at some point this spring, LG G4 is expected to feature a more premium build than its predecessor. Apple planning to release three new iPhones later this year

Apple has built a formidable track record of sticking with pretty much the same release cycle for its iPhone models. Handset releases come a year apart and have mostly been following a "tick-tock" scheme with the S models. Ever since the iPhone 5, we have begun to expect a new iPhone every September and there is no reason to believe the Cupertino tech giant will deviate from this schedule with the next round of smartphones. A new rumor, courtesy of industry inside sources, has come to our attention that might shed some light on the upcoming phones. And, we have to say, it is pretty much what everybody expected. According to the information, Apple is working on two natural successors to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, named iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. But there is still somewhat of a plot twist in the story, as the US company will allegedly be bringing back the infamous C model, in the form of the iPhone 6C. This is quite an odd choice, indeed, seeing how the iPhone 5C was quite a failure and widely regarded as a shameless effort to trick buyers, not to mention an affront to Apple's trademark style. But, perhaps, sales report tell a different story and make the idea of a iPhone 6C a viable market strategy. The rumor goes on to detail that the C model will feature a 4-inch display, which is kind of odd, seeing how the form factor was last seen a generation ago in the iPhone 5c and 5s, so there might still be hope that the 6C is more than a stripped down iPhone 6. The is further proved by the rumor that all three devices will be equipped with LTPS panels, courtesy of Japan Display and LG for the 6S models, as well as Sharp for the 6C. Then again, the two 6S version should be powered by the all new A9 chip, while the rumor states that the 6C will have the A8, found in current models, so things can still go either way for the little handset. We have also heard that the iPhone 6S will pack 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM in a previous rumor. Corning Gorilla Glass, NFC and fingerprint scanning technology will also be found in all of the models. Wistron should be in charge of manufacturing the 6C units and the rest are left to Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) and Pegatron. We should note, that the above is a rumor and while it does sound pretty logical and believable, should be taken with a grain of salt, perhaps even a...

Samsung to bring back the microSD slot with the S6 Active

Samsung Galaxy S6 turned out not the flagship many was hoping for. It ditched the SD expansion slot the water protection and removable battery for good, in favor of refined design and improved user experience. Now that those features are a lost cause for the Samsung Galaxy S6, many are hoping Samsung would reconsider for the upcoming Galaxy S6 Active edition of the flagship. A reddit user spent some quality time with a Samsung rep, who shed some light on company's plans for future devices and past decisions. First, let's check out what's coming in the Galaxy S6 Active. Reportedly the device will keep the Galaxy S6 specs, but will lack fingerprint scanner and heart-rate monitor. Instead it will come with front physical keys and will look a lot like the recently announced Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3. The highlights of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active will be, of course, the water and dust protection plus Samsung promises to keep the microSD card slot and the removable battery. Currently Samsung has no plans for giving up on the memory expansions slots in the rugged smartphones. The Galaxy S6 Active should be launched in mid-summer this year, but the pricing is yet to be announced. The reddit user garshol also asked the Samsung's rep about the decision to cut off the water-proofing and the SD slot. Apparently Samsung did a study among the users about the water protection and they concluded the people prefer the freedom from port covers in favor of water endurance. The microSD slot on the other hand was removed in order to fit more technology on its place and for a better and more refined design. You should take all these pieces of information with a healthy pinch of salt, as usual. Source |...

Samsung plans to triple the production of Galaxy S6 edge

The special sibling to Samsung's latest flagship, the Galaxy S6 edge, is apparently even hotter than the company had foreseen. After forecasts by market analysts reached a 55M total Galaxy S6 units sold throughout the year, the Korean giant is finding a hard time keeping up with the demand. As it turns out, the ~€150 price premium that the edge variant commands over an identically specced regular Galaxy S6 is proving to be less of a deterrent to prospect buyers that previously suggested. Now equal quantities of both are now expected to be sold and Samsung is planning on tripling the originally planned output. It was previously reported, that the limiting factor in the smartphone's production may be the curved glass, but new info in Korean media claims that it's in fact the touch screen panel behind it. So far a single company has been producing the touch screen panels for the Galaxy S6 edge, Japan's Alps Electronics. With the demand increasing, Samsung is turning to the domestic industry and Korean manufacturer S-MAC has been mentioned by insiders as a future Samsung partner in the field. With the pronounced trend towards more unorthodox screen implementations and the purported dual edge Galaxy Note 5, the Korean display industry can reap benefits from such partnerships for years to come. Moto X 3rd Gen (2015) coming this fall

Rick Osterloh, Motorola's President, spilled the beans on company's plans about the next Moto X. He answered to a question on Twitter as part of the #AskRickO initiative. He was asked about the time-frame for the third generation Moto X. Apparently the Motorola will be trying to keep an annual cycle for all its products, including the Moto X, which means we can expect the third Moto X to go official in August or September. Earlier this year Qualcomm and Motorola revealed the company's next flagship will be powered by the latest generation Snapdragon 810 chip, which suggests the next Moto X might indeed use the Snapdragon 810 SoC. There are some overheating issues with this chip though and the current crop of flagships resolves them with a proper CPU throttling. A cooler Snapdragon 815 successor is already in the pipeline, and the Snapdragon 820 is already official, so hopefully the Moto X will be utilizing S815 or S820 instead of the 810 model, no matter the earlier announcement. We'd hate to see another phone threaten by the user concerns for its hardware. Source |...

YU's Project Caesar gets teased again, has some specs outed

Earlier this month we first told you about Project Caesar, the codename for YU's next Android smartphone. The company is a spinoff from Micromax, the biggest Indian phone maker, and it launched its first device, the Yureka, a while back. This has been pretty well received, with its decent midrange specs, very low price, and CyanogenMod OS at the helm. So will YU be able to reprise that performance with Project Caesar? The company obviously thinks so, and it's released a new teaser for the device. Thankfully, this also reveals some of its specs. As you can see from the image above, the next YU handset will come with a 64-bit chipset and will sport 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. YU contrasts this with an unnamed Xiaomi phone, which we're assuming is the Redmi 2. That device has two versions, the cheaper of which does indeed come with only 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, along with the 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC. This isn't the first time YU mocks Xiaomi, it's done the same in its first teaser for Project Caesar - on that occasion focusing on the fact that the Chinese company's low-end handsets are still running Android 4.4 KitKat, whereas the upcoming Caesar should have Android Lollipop on board from day one. Since this teaser campaign is continuing, we assume we'll see an official introduction of the Project Caesar device sometime soon. We should then find out if it will indeed be a worthy competitor to the Xiaomi Redmi 2. Some rumors have claimed that YU's Project Caesar will arrive in April and will be priced at INR 6,500, which is about $104 or €95. Source |...

Xiaomi wants to sell 100 million smartphones this year

Xiaomi sure hopes its parts suppliers will be able to keep up with its growth this year. Lei Jun, the company's CEO (pictured to the left), has announced that Xiaomi plans to sell 80 to 100 million smartphones in 2015. When you compare this to the "more than 61 million" units that it managed to move last year, it quickly becomes apparent that this mobile device maker won't stop challenging its competitors. Xiaomi's growth so far has been extremely big (especially when you factor in that it still officially operates in only a handful of markets), but the company shows no signs of stopping in 2015. Hence, Lei Jun's hope that Xiaomi's suppliers will be able to complete the production tasks it's set for them, thus making it easier for eager customers to buy the phones. All of this was said at Xiaomi's Global Supplier Conference which was held today in China. The smartphone maker's CEO also reiterated how his company makes a lot of efforts to ensure the effective quality control of its wares, always striving to release high quality...

In the UK, BT launches its own 4G LTE mobile contracts

While it's waiting around for regulatory approval for its £12.5 billion acquisition of EE, BT has decided to swiftly re-enter the mobile market in the UK with a few SIM-only 4G LTE plans. The telecoms giant is, for now, offering these as an MVNO which uses EE's network. Obviously though, the options should multiply when BT becomes the owner of EE in the coming months. BT isn't giving you 'free' phones at this point in time, opting to release only three 'bring your own phone' SIM-only deals. If you have BT Broadband, these start at £5 per month. The cheapest plan gives you 200 minutes, unlimited texts, and 500MB of data. Next up there's a £12 option with 500 minutes, unlimited texts, and 2GB of data. The most expensive variant costs £20 per month and offers unlimited minutes and texts along with a whopping 20GB of data. All plans are 4G-enabled, and all require you to sign a one-year contract. They all give you access to BT's Wi-Fi hotspots too. The aforementioned prices are only valid if you have BT Broadband, otherwise you need to pay £5 per month more for each one. Source |...

Hutchison Whampoa began talks with Telefonica to buy carrier O2 UK in January. The companies have finally reached an agreement for a sum of £10.3, of course pending an approval from regulators. The company says that regulatory approval may take up to a year so it will be a while before the deal goes through. £9.25 billion will be paid first, while the final £1 billion is subject to certain agreed-upon performance metrics from O2. Xiaomi will unveil new product(s) on March 31

Xiaomi has wildly expanded its product range - starting with smartphones, the fast-growing company now offers TVs, Android TV boxes, headphones, battery packs and a fitness tracker. And there are more new product(s) incoming at the end of the month, March 31. That's right product(s) - the company is teasing the readers of its teaming forum and even has them trying to guess how many new Mi products will be unveiled by Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun. As you can imagine, the overwhelming vote is for more than three devices. So, will it be a new phone? Xiaomi already has the flagship Mi Note and Mi Note Pro, plus the mid-range darling, the Redmi 2. The Xiaomi Ferrari recently leaked, a 5" powerhouse, plus an ultra-cheap $65 phone is expected too. The company may even be toying with a Windows 10 handset. There's some talk of a smartwatch too, but the Mi Band may be enough for now. There were even rumors flying around about a drone. Xiaomi is light on tablets though, it only has the Mi Pad 7.9, which was unveiled in March last year. We may see an upgraded version or perhaps a 10.1" tablet. All of this is just speculation of course, we'll find out the real answer next...

HTC One M9+ dummy on video, working device photographed

The HTC One M9+ refuses to leave the rumor mill but soon it may have to. A promo image briefly appeared on the net, an invitation for the unveiling on April 8. We've seen schematics of the phone, but here's a video of a dummy being handled. The HTC One M9+ is not a small device, it has grown bigger to accommodate the new 5.2" screen. New iOS 8.3 beta builds go out to testers and developers

Almost two weeks ago, Apple officially unveiled its consumer-oriented beta program for iOS 8.3. At the same time, it released the first beta build for eager testers, which coincided with the third iOS 8.3 beta release for developers. And today it's time for a new update. A new beta build of iOS 8.3 is now going out to both developers and consumers. For developers, this is the fourth beta of the next iOS release, which might be an indication that we're headed towards the finalization of the build pretty soon. For consumers who are using the Apple Seed program, this is the second beta of iOS 8.3, which will show up for them in Software Update on their devices. The download sizes may be different for each device, but in all cases it looks like we're seeing files above 100MB. iOS 8.3 beta 4 for developers removes the "beta" tag from iCloud Photo Library, but this isn't the first time that this has happened - so it may be back in the future. Additionally, the message filtering feature introduced in an earlier beta has been refined somewhat, with the category for iMessages sent by people who aren't in your contact list having been renamed to "Unknown Senders". Obviously some unnamed bug fixes and performance improvements should be in too, but that's pretty much it for new stuff in this release. Source 1 • Source...
