Samsung to release another Edge model before the next Note Edge?

Samsung was faced with unexpectedly high demand for the Galaxy S6 edge which lead to the opening of another edge display factory ahead of schedule. The market's warm reception of the handset has allegedly inspired ideas for further expansion of the edge-screened range. A report in Korean media claims that the company may be working on a new device, which will precede the Galaxy Note Edge's successor, or Project Zen as it is currently dubbed. So far it has been assumed that the sequel to the company's pioneering curved screen device is set to be announced this fall, alongside a vanilla Galaxy Note 5. Project Zen is tipped to come with a dual-edge display around the 5.5-inch mark, S Pen and an inferior chipset. Then the inevitable question must be asked, if there will be enough room between it and the Galaxy S6 edge for yet another smartphone with such a screen. Bear in mind that this mysterious new device is yet nothing more than a rumor though, with no material evidence to support it so far. Source |...

ZTE to debut Nubia exclusively on Amazon in India

Last month Huawei introduced couple of new smartphones under the Honor brand in India. Following that, ZTE also announced it's bringing its Nubia brand in India on May 19. While the formal launch is barely few days away, the company has confirmed of inking a deal to keep Nubia exclusive on Amazon in India and also shared a new landing page for it - www.amazon.in/nubia. To publicize its entry, the company has also released a promotional video which also hits the Nubia India site link. The invite for the launch has already been sent out to the media houses. As per our estimate, Nubia will introduce the Z9 mini for the Indian audience next week, which makes more sense rather than introducing year-old models. Later this year Nubia might also choose to bring the entire Z9 line, which also includes the Z9 and the Z9...

Meizu MX4 Ubuntu edition rumoured to launch next week

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Meizu will launch the Ubuntu-running edition of its MX4 smartphone on May 18, according to a report out of China. The device was first shown off back in March at this year's MWC. Specs-wise, the handset - which is only the second smartphone running Ubuntu, after the entry-level BQ Aquaris E4.5 - sports a 5.36-inch display of 1152 x 1920 pixel resolution, a Mediatek chipset with an octa-core processor and 2GB of RAM. Incidentally, Meizu is also set to announce its first smartphone in India on May 18. So, could it be the MX4 Ubuntu? Well, we'll have to wait and watch. Meanwhile, if you aren't already aware, the MX4 Pro has allegedly been discontinued by the company....

Sony Lavender specs revealed, larger than the Xperia C4

We showed you a lone picture of the upcoming selfie-centered Sony Lavender yesterday, but there was no update on the previously rumored hardware. Well, we're going to address that today with new intel on the matter. The smartphone is quite similar to the yet unreleased Xperia C4, but a few specs have been taken up a notch or two. For starters, display size is allegedly going to be larger than the 5.5 inches of the Xperia C4, and although it's not specified exactly, the 6-inch Xperia T2 Ultra may give you a hint. It's going to be a FullHD panel, the source reiterates. As we suspected looking at the photo, the Lavender will have extremely thin side bezels, too. The other key feature is the front camera, which gets a significant upgrade to 13MP over the Xperia C4's 5MP unit. With a front LED flash on board, the smartphone is targeted squarely at the selfie-loving crowd. On the back there's another 13MP shooter, and both units employ Sony's own and quite popular IMX214 sensor. Computing power is said to come from a Mediatek MT6752 chipset with an octa-core 1.7GHz Cortex-A53 processor, joined by a dual-core Mali-T760 GPU and 2GB of RAM, all of which can be found in the Xperia C4 as well. The phone will boot Lollipop out of the box, and a dual SIM model will be available too. Obviously, it's way too early to talk price and availability, but we'll keep you...

Xiaomi Mi 4i arriving in Malaysia next week

The Mi 4i, which was made official by Xiaomi at a dedicated event in India last month, is set to launch in Malaysia on May 21. As per the press invite (see image above) sent by the five-year-old Chinese start-up, its global head of product, Donovan Sung, along with others, will take centre stage at the event. It's worth mentioning that the device went on sale in Hong Kong and Singapore earlier this week, carrying a price tag of $205 and $210, respectively. Cricket becomes first US carrier to offer Lumia 640

Cricket Wireless has become the first carrier in the US to start offering the Microsoft Lumia 640, which was announced at this year's MWC along with its larger brother - the Lumia 640 XL. The AT&T subsidiary is selling the device (only the cyan version is available) for $130 sans contract, which is a bit steeper than the $89 price tag it was spotted carrying when it made a brief appearance on the US Microsoft Store website last month. If you purchase the Lumia 640 before June 30, you'll get a 1-year Office 365 Personal bundle (usually worth $70) for free. It's also worth mentioning that Microsoft has already confirmed that the handset will be one of the first devices to receive the Windows 10 for Phones update. Source |...

ZTE launches its Nubia brand in India on May 19

Last week we found out about ZTE's intentions of taking its Nubia brand to India. At that point some leaked information claimed the Z9 Mini would be the first Nubia smartphone to be released in the subcontinent. Today ZTE has started sending invites for the Nubia launch event to Indian media outlets. The big unveil is scheduled for May 19, so next Tuesday. The Chinese company hasn't hinted at which device or devices will be revealed on that occasion. That said, even if it's not going to be the Z9 Mini as previously rumored, it stands to reason that ZTE will focus on the Z9 line, which also comprises the Z9 and the Z9 Max. This makes sense because these three handsets are the latest to come out of the Nubia sub-brand. ZTE has partnered exclusively with Amazon India for releases in the subcontinent, though for now it's unclear if it will employ the flash sale model pioneered by Xiaomi or not. The full details should become available next week, of...

Apple iPhone 6s' 12MP camera confirmed by another source

Apple has gathered plenty of criticism for its choice to stick with the same 8MP main camera for generations on end, high-quality as it may be. Well, apparently, the 8MP shooter will finally be retired, as we already told you a few days ago. The iPhone 6s/6s Plus, due this fall, will likely come with a 12MP sensor, and confirmation on the matter comes from an IHS Technology senior executive. However, the individual pixel size will be smaller, the source claims. The most obvious logic behind the decision would be to keep the overall sensor size unchanged, and consequently use the same optics, or at least minimize the necessary alterations. With so many factors affecting image quality though, we won't delve into the argument of megapixels versus pixel size. Apple has so far strayed from the megapixel race, or any spec race, for that matter, but there's purely practical reasoning behind a larger resolution sensor and that's 2160p video recording. With every major flagship now supporting it, Apple can't stay out much longer. And even if you argue, that you don't need such high-res videos now, future-proofing your memories could never hurt. Either way there's still plenty of time before the next iPhone comes to life, and we'll make sure to keep you updated on its development. Source |...

HTC One ME9 launch in India approaching

We reported a few days ago on HTC's yet another top-specced device of the One M9 generation and at the time it was known as the M9e. As it turns out, the smartphone is more likely going to be called One ME9 and it's also expected to be launched in India sooner rather than later. Indication of that comes from an import listing, which states that 1400 dummy units have entered the country on May 8. That should mean that display shelves need to be stocked, hinting at the phone's imminent release. The listing shows two separate entries with different numbers, presumably for two different color options. By the looks of it, the One ME9 is meant to be a more affordable version of the 5.2-inch One M9+, with a few changes introduced to lower the price. Perhaps the most notable one is the polycarbonate back cover which has replaced the metal unibody. The second camera on the back has also been sacrificed, but the main 20MP unit is retained. Other than that it's more or less the same phone with a 5.2-inch QHD display, Mediatek MT6795 chipset and 3GB of RAM. The exact pricing of the HTC One ME9 is yet unknown, as is the release date for the Indian market. So far it's unclear what other parts of the world will get it either, but don't be surprised if it never leaves...

LG G4 said to be landing on T-Mobile on June 2

While we already have an idea about the carrier retail price of the G4 in the US, looks like now we have some information on its release date, too. According to T-Mobile's promotional Twitter account for the device, the flagship will be available for purchase starting June 2. We already knew that the handset would go on sale on T-Mobile only after May 25, given that the magenta carrier is currently running an exclusive preview program for the device which runs through that date. So, a release date of June 2 falls in line with that information, although T-Mobile is yet to announce it officially. Meanwhile, it isn't yet clear when the smartphone will be available on other US carriers, although the Verizon and Sprint variants are said to have cleared the FCC...

LG's new Windows Phone handset is up for preorder from Verizon

We have been hearing a lot about an upcoming Windows Phone device from LG and according to a previous account, it should go on sale at Verizon on May 21. This timeframe could turn out to be pretty accurate, as today the said device was listed for preorder on Verizon's website. The handset is named LG Lancet and runs on Windows Phone 8.1. Specswise, the phone is pretty low-end. It is powered by the Snapdragon 410 SoC, featuring a 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU, and sports a 4.5-inch 480x854 LCD touchscreen. It also comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable internal memory (of which half should be user-accessible), and packs in a 2,100 mAh battery. The camera packs an 8MP sensor. Other features include support for microSDXC cards, for up to 128GB additional storage, as well as XLTE, advertised as: Doubling our 4G LTE bandwidth in cities coast to coast. We also know the smartphones dimensions and expected battery life. It is 64.8mm wide and 129.8mm high, but Verizon has skipped on the thickness. It weighs in at 143g. For battery life expectancy, LG lists 420 hours of standby and 18.5 hours of "usage time", whatever that refers to, but we will see for ourselves, once we get our hands on a unit. On the software side, the LG Lancet runs Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2, and comes with features such as KnockOn (double tap to wake or sleep), as well as Soft Light and Gesture Shot for camera. Pricing is set at $19.99 on a two-year contract or the tempting $120 off contract. Source |...

LG G4 Mini shows up in a Vodafone price list

LG has already made the G4 official, but so far the company has not outed a 'mini' version of its new flagship. Last year we had the G3 S serving this purpose, so it stands to reason that a 'mini' G4 is being prepped. In fact, not long ago we found out about a G4c that will supposedly be out in Europe in June, with lower-end specs and a smaller screen compared to the G4. Now though from Hungary comes a mention of a phone actually called LG G4 Mini. This has been spotted in a price list for Vodafone's local arm over there, as you can see from the photo below. The listing has since vanished, but it's pretty clear that Vodafone is getting ready to release the G4 Mini. And since this particular carrier is present in many European countries, we assume the G4 Mini will get a wider launch. According to some unnamed sources, the handset is due to be in stores in "early summer", and it will sport a 5-inch 720p touchscreen and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 615 chipset. This directly conflicts with the previously leaked info out of Germany, which was claiming that the G4c would come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC instead. So either the G4 Mini and G4c will be different devices, or one of these sources is wrong. This time around we don't get any more details, but the aforementioned German rumor also talked about the smaller G4 coming with an 8 MP rear camera, a 5 MP selfie unit, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of expandable internal storage. It should run Android 5.0 Lollipop from day one, and will apparently be released in Germany in the first week of June. Source (in...

LG G Stylo now out at Boost Mobile, coming to Sprint in June

After going official in LG's native South Korea last month, the G Stylo phablet has been semi-announced by T-Mobile - in that the carrier acknowledged that it would be selling it, but hasn't shared any more details. On the other hand, a report recently revealed a possible May 20 release date for the handset on the magenta network. In the meantime, Sprint went and published an actual announcement for the G Stylo, complete with a release date. What's more, the phone is already up for grabs today at Boost Mobile, one of Sprint's prepaid brands. If you have nothing against using Boost as your carrier, then the G Stylo will cost you $199.99, obviously without a long-term contract. If you want to wait for Sprint to launch it, then you'll be doing that until next month. The G Stylo will be available at Sprint Prepaid on June 7, and Sprint at June 12. The price for Sprint Prepaid will be the same as the one already employed by Boost. As for contracts, if you wait until June 12 you'll be able to get a G Stylo for $0 down, then followed by 24 monthly payments of $12, adding up to a total price of $288. The LG G Stylo comes with a stylus (as its name implies), a 5.7-inch 720p touchscreen, an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash and laser autofocus, a 5 MP selfie snapper, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, and a 3,000 mAh battery. Sony Xperia A4 is official in Japan, a Z4 Compact in disguise?

Sony has quietly announced the Xperia A4 smartphone for the Japanese carrier NTT Docomo. The new device sports a model number SO-04G, which fuels speculation that it may be the future global Xperia Z4 Compact. A former Xperia A2 SO-04F was launched for the world as Xperia Z3 Compact, so it's not entirely out of the question. Additionally, the carrier's site lists the Z4 and A4 models side by side, giving more credibility to the suspicion. The Xperia A4 is built around the same 4.6-inch 720p Triluminous display as the Z3 Compact, and is largely identical to Sony's small-size flagship. It packs the same Snapdragon 801 chipset and that alone may lead us to believe that the A4 is nothing but a carrier-specific Z3 Compact, instead of a successor. After all, it's the chipset that sets apart the Xperia Z4 from the predecessor and if you deny the Compact that upgrade, it remains the same phone. Other than that, the Xperia A4 comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The 20.7MP main camera, found on each and every Sony flagship since the Xperia Z1, is on board too. A notable difference from the global Xperia Z3 Compact is the OS version, with the Xperia A4 launching straight on Android 5.0, though admittedly the Z3 Compact has already received the update. The pictures of the Xperia A4 on the carrier's site also suggest a matte plastic back, as opposed to the glass used on the Z3 Compact. The marginal difference in dimensions (128 x 66 x 9.1mm for the A4, versus 127.3 x 64.9 x 8.6 mm for the Z3 Compact) further supports that theory. Weight is the same 129g, and battery capacity has been kept at 2,600mAh as well. The Sony Xperia A4 is available now for pre-order and will start shipping in mid-June. We'll wait and see if it develops into a Z3 Compact successor or remains simply a local version of it. Source |...
