Apple Watch might be delayed in Switzerland due to patent issues

The Apple Watch is entering the home stretch and is getting close to its release date. In the US, preorders are set for April 10 and you should be able to get one as early as April 24, if you manage to time things right. This, however, might not be the case for Swiss users. Apple is allegedly facing some intellectual property issues, which might force the Cupertino giant to postpone the release of the eagerly-anticipated smart wearable. A local broadcaster, going by the moniker RTS, says that the word "apple" can't appear on the new product in his home country, or be used to in other promotional materials, as long as a patent from 1985 stands. The document in question belongs to William Longe, owner of the Leonard watch brand. Apparently his company currently holds the rights to market a watch bearing the name or model "apple", which is clearly a setback, for the namesake American company. As luck has it, though, the patent expires on December 5 this year. The company could, potentially, take legal actions and attempt to find a way out for the wearable, but this is surely a lengthy process and could very well stretch beyond December of this year. Another option is to work around the issue and not use the word "apple" for the device in Switzerland at all. While this is somewhat plausible and could be pulled off, it seems quite unlikely and too much of a hustle. The sad truth, for Swiss Apple fan's at least, is that the patent saga might postpone the Apple Watch launch by a few months. Still, even if that was to happen we have no doubt that all eager fans will be able to import units from the rest of Europe. There is also always the possibility that the whole matter is blown out of proportions and no real threat of delay exists, but without an official statement, we can't really be...

The Apple Watch will be available for in-store pickup at launch

The Apple Watch is now inching toward its release date and excitement is at an all-time high. The Cupertino tech giant has set preorders for its smart wearable for April 10 and the first batch of units should be made available to eager consumers on April 24. The aforementioned set of dates has been known for quite some time now, but there has been a lot of speculation regarding the way distributing the devices will be handled. Today, some light has been shed on the issue and it turns out, customers will, in fact, be given the option to pick up their devices from a physical retail store on launch date, as well as, to have them delivered. This, however, does not remove the need for preorder, on the contrary. As we mentioned in a previous article, Apple is expecting a huge amount of interest, especially for the first wave of devices, and consequently, they won't be sold to walk-in customers at all, at least until things calm down. Anyone who want to purchase one as soon as possible, after the April 24 launch date, that is, has to preorder online, or, at least register for a try-on session. Registering before going into the store on the said date seems to obligatory if you want to be among the first to own the gadget. The try-ons will be held at select stores and will start on April 10, but, if you sign up for one on April 24 you could theoretically buy the watch after you get to see it, but availability is still not guaranteed. This is a little confusing and will surely lead to even bigger camping lines in front of store, than at usual Apple device launches and ordering your device online with free delivery really seems like the smarter way to go, at least on paper. Bear in mind that if you have opted to spend an inordinate amount of money and get yourself a Watch Edition then your experience will most likely differ. One of the many perks premium Apple Watch shoppers will get is a one hour, private try-on session, as opposed to a 15 minute one at a booth. And we assume supplies won't shift so fast for a $10,000 unit, so you are quite safe. As for the majority of users, who will opt for the slightly less-horribly overpriced steel and sport versions, you might have to show some patience. And if you are still struggling with the purchase decision, perhaps our editorial on the subject can help you make up your mind. We have also prepared a comprehensive overview of the pricing on the "affordable" models, as well as the elite ones. Will you be standing in line for the Apple Watch come April 24 or do you have other plans? Tell us in the comment section...

The Huawei P8 might come with an upgraded processor

The Huawei P8 has been a constant presence in the rumor mill for a few months now. The Chinese manufacturer has generated a lot of hype around the eagerly-anticipated smartphone and hints and speculations have been plentiful. We are already quite familiar with the dimensions of the device, its upcoming release and alleged price tag and we have even seen some renders, portraying the beautiful craftsmanship of the handset, so, we were fairly certain we knew what to expect on April 15, when the Huawei P8 will be officially unveiled. A brand new rumor, however, states that the device will not be built around the Kirin 930 SoC, as we previously thought, but will rather sport a brand new Kirin 935. We are already familiar with the Kirin 930 chip - it is based on modified Coretex-A53 cores, dubbed A53E in a big.LITTLE setup and is fund in the Huawei MediaPad X2. Information about the Kirin 935, however, is still scarce. Judging by the model, it should be an upgraded version of its predecessor, so it will probably spout the same processor cores, with a beefed-up GPU. As far as we know, other specs on the Huawei P8 include a 5.2-inch 1080p screen, 3GB of RAM, 32GB onboard memory and a 2600 mAh battery, all housed in a body, measuring 144.9 x 71.9 x 6.6mm. The main camera should be a 13MP model, perhaps utilizing the Sony IMX278 sensor, but nothing is certain yet. There have even been talks of a fingerprint scanner, but we will just have to wait and see for that. The Huawei P8 is expected to arrive in two versions, which rumors indicate might be called the standard and platinum edition. The former will reportedly carry a sub $500 price tag, while the latter will be priced around $800. We also heard of a cheaper dual-SIM P8 Lite model in the works, which could be affected by the chipset upgrade as well. Source (in Chinese) |...

Android 5.0 Lollipop hits Verizon's Samsung Galaxy Note 4

After having been received by both AT&T's and Sprint's respective versions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 already, the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop is now on its way to Verizon's model. The carrier nicknamed Big Red has published the update documentation on its website, which means the rollout of the new software is imminent (if it hasn't started already). As usual with these things, keep in mind that the over-the-air rollout will be staged, so it might be a few days (or more) before your Note 4 tells you about the update. If you don't want to wait, you can try to manually check by going to Settings > About phone > Software updates. Your battery will need to be at least half full to initiate the procedure, and you are required to have at least 1.7GB of free space available. After applying the update, you'll be on build LRX22C.N910VVRU1BOAF. Source 1 (PDF) • Source 2 (PDF) |...

Yet another set of One M9 Plus renders surface

Another day, another HTC One M9 Plus leak. HTC's upcoming handset has been a constant presence in the rumor mill for the past few days and, as it turns out, leaked images are pretty easy to come by. Granted, all we have seen so far are renders, from various sources and they have been getting more and more frequent. We are yet to see some live shots of an actual unit, but, from the looks of things, the smartphone will certainly feature a physical button. This has been a long-standing debate about the M9 Plus and while one or two renders, could be deceiving in nature, evidence has started piling up and at this point, there is really no ignoring the big, round button, in the middle of the bottom Boom speaker. A brand new set of pictures only further proves this point. This time, the renders are really up close and personal and the overall design is as clear as daylight. All of the HTC One M9 is there, which is really no surprise, considering the company's track record of sticking with the particular unibody style. The elephant in the room, the button, has naturally led to a lot of controversy and is quite polarizing among fans. Another thing is also clear - HTC has preserved the wide black bar below the display, also, often criticized by users. Source (in Chinese) |...

Meizu says it sold 2 million devices last month

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Meizu has announced that it sold around 2 million devices last month. This compares to the 1 and 1.5 million smartphones it sold in the months of December 2014 and January this year, respectively. Back in February this year, Li Nan, VP of Marketing and Sales at Meizu, said that the company could reach the 20 million figure by the end of the year. However, he also made it clear that it's not something they are aiming to achieve. The news comes nearly a couple of months after Alibaba Group announced that it will invest $590 million in the smartphone...

Galaxy S6 edge and HTC One M9 and iPhone 6 undergo bend test

Dredging up a controversial issue from the past, Square Trade decided to redo Bendgate tests this time including the new Samsung Galaxy S6 edge and HTC One M9. The phones were tested twice - once until they visibly bend and again until they are bent to their breaking point The Apple iPhone 6 Plus, the phone that kicked off Bendgate, was put under 110 pounds before it got deformed. It took the most pressure, 179 pounds, to break the Apple gadget. The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge also bent at 110 pounds, though one of the curved sides of the display cracked. It's protected by Gorilla Glass 4, but the shape of the side makes it more susceptible to cracking. The S6 edge could still power on though so it was put in the press again until it broke at 149 pounds. Finally, the HTC One M9 first bent at 120 pounds which was its undoing too. The Power button was moved from the top to the center of the right side, exactly where the phone bends (phones tend to bend at the side buttons). The One M9 could not power on after that. Here's a table with the numbers for each phone: .atable { margin-bottom: 1em; width: 580px !important; } .atable tr:first-child td {font-weight: bold !important; background-color: lightgrey; } .atable td:first-child { font-weight: bold !important; } .atable td { text-align: center; } Phone Bend weight Breaking weight Apple iPhone 6 Pls 110lbs 179lbs HTC One M9 — 120lbs Samsung Galaxy S6 110lbs 149lbs Source |...

Huawei P8 shows up in another set of leaked images

The hotly-anticipated Huawei P8 is due to be revealed in less than two weeks from now, with a launch event scheduled for April 15. As the wait is drawing to an end though, we're now being treated to another batch of photos revealing a few details of the smartphone's body. The surrounding metal frame is the centerpiece of the leak and apparently Huawei is pretty proud of its craftsmanship. A lathe blade is pictured, next to the finely chamfered edges of the frame, accenting its premium quality. The recessed power button on the right side gets its own photo, together with the volume rocker. Rumor has it that the small button might house a fingerprint sensor, after the P8 passed TENAA certification without one on the back, which was the former concept. The main camera with its dual LED flash in the top left corner of the back is the focus of the third tiny image. All these features nicely match the previously leaked schematics of the P8. You can also tell that the images belong to the P8 and not its smaller sibling, the P8 Lite, which sports a flipped camera/flash arrangement. Source |...

Next Samsung Exynos to pack custom cores

In most electronics nowadays performance is king and the more bit-crunching power you can put out, the better. This is not exactly the case with smartphones, though, where power efficiency is equally if not more important. This being said, however, no true power-user can deny that having more power under the hood is always better and in the mobile realm Samsung currently has the lead, by a long margin. The latest Exynos 7420 chipset, found in the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge is way ahead of its competition in sheer performance and according to a new rumor, the Korean giant has something even better in store. According to the latest reports the next Exynos chip will be powered by custom cores, rather than the stock Cortex A72 silicon. The SoC is allegedly codenamed "Mongoose" and will be clocked at 2.3 GHz. The rumor also cites a single-core Geekbench score, which is impressive, to say the least. The number is around 2200, which is about 45% better than the current Exynos. Now, this should be taken with a grain of salt, as it is entirely in the realm of rumors, at least for now. Furthermore, even if this information is true and Samsung powered the Galaxy Note 5 or the next Galaxy S device with the new entirely custom chip, raw-power does not necessarily translate into real-world performance and a lot of other factors have to be considered as well, most notably - battery life. Thanks for the tip CLARiiON Via (in...

The hot new component will appear in the upcoming LG G4 later this month, on April 28. The Korean giant's new display panel utilizes advance in-cell touch technology developed by LG Display. The tech delivers high touch sensitivity and can even respond to touch commands with water drops. A photo-alignment technology used in the display utilizes UV light to achieve higher contrast ratio. The latter is achieved by aligning the liquid crystals to reduce leakage. Furthermore, the contrast ratio of the new panel is 50% higher than that of conventional QHD LCD panels. Sprint's Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport now receiving Lollipop update

Samsung is continuing its Lollipop update rollouts. The latest device made by the Korean company to get the new Android version is the Galaxy S5 Sport for Sprint. This model has been exclusive to this particular carrier, and it's somewhere in between the original Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy S5 Active in terms of ruggedness. Since both the S5 and the S5 Active have already been treated to the Lollipop update, it's only natural that the S5 Sport follows. Sprint has published its official update notice today, which means the rollout is about to start (if it hasn't done so already). As always though keep in mind that it might take a few days until your device notifies you about the new software, since these releases are generally staged. After applying the update, you'll be on software version G860PVPU1BOC5. Aside from everything that Lollipop itself entails, this release also contains the Reactivation Lock feature, which requires entering a security code when trying to factory reset the phone. Original Moto X, Moto E, and Moto G 4G get Android 5.1 directly

If you own an original Moto X, Moto E, or Moto G 4G you're probably wondering where your Lollipop update is. You've seen newer Motorola handsets blessed with Android 5.0 many weeks ago, and are getting rather impatient? Well, then this is for you. There's some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that you'll still have to wait a while until your particular device runs Lollipop. However, the good news is that Motorola has decided to skip the Android 5.0 release entirely, and update the Moto X, Moto E, and Moto G 4G with Android 5.1 directly. So when the update does land, you'll be on the absolute latest iteration of Google's mobile operating system. This is all according to David Schuster, Motorola's senior director of software product management. So it's as official as can be. Interestingly, the company has applied the same strategy for the Lollipop update for the Droid Turbo. That phone will skip Android 5.0 too, jumping straight to Android 5.1. Unfortunately at this point no rollout timeline has been announced for any of these smartphones, we just know that updates are in the testing phase. Hopefully that won't take much longer and these handsets will finally get to taste Lollipop. Source |...

New leaked renders show the One M9 Plus in silver and gold

HTC has been getting a lot of attention today. We have seen some official information about an upcoming One M8s, as well as some rumors about the One E9. #twitter-widget-0 {width: 590px !important;} Today's last leak, good night! pic.twitter.com/UlDiwni8wc— @upleaks (@upleaks) April 2, 2015 Yet the talk of a plus version of the One M9 and One E9 is perhaps the most exciting rumor yet. A few hours ago we reported on some allegedly leaked banners of the yet unknown HTC One M9 Plus. The most shocking part was, of course, that the phone features a physical home button, perhaps even with a fingerprint reader. Now, a new set of images, renders to be precise, courtesy of upleaks, seem to back-up the new design hypothesis. They portray a device that looks quite similar to the One M9, but with two quite noticeable difference. The first is the aforementioned button, which might replace HTC's traditional on-screen navigation scheme, or, at least, supplement it. And the other obvious change is the huge round main camera on the back, clearly different from the square sensor on the One M9. The renders seem to show both a dual-tone silver version of the mystery device, as well as an all-gold one. Both have the China mobile logo printed on the backs, so perhaps that is where the renders originally leaked from. Force Touch sensor may be exclusive to the iPhone 6s Plus

Apple debuted Force Touch the Apple Watch, a technology that can tell apart light taps and deep presses dubbed "force click." The new MacBook 12" has it on its trackpad. And the rumor is that the next generation iPhone 6s Plus will adopt it too. Force clicks are a quicker way to access certain functions and are adopted in OS X Yosemite. The Wall Street Journal wrote about Force Touch on the incoming iPhones in early March, but back then it was believed that both models will get it. The latest rumors claim that only the Apple phablet will get the required hardware. It's said that it costs 2.5 as much as the one on the Apple Watch (from $4-$5 to $13-$14), presumably because of the larger size. While that's pricy as far as components go, but it shouldn't be out of reach even for the small iPhone. Still, the Plus model gets extra features to earn its premium position. Asus targets 30M smartphone sales in 2015

The Asus Zenfone 2 range was officially launched in China less than a fortnight ago, Europe followed closely, and the Indian market is scheduled for an April 13 release. With such global expansion and given the high popularity of the range it comes as no surprise that the company is now aiming at a whopping 30 million units sold throughout 2015. The ambitious figure was revealed by Asustek chairman Jonney Shih himself in Chinese media. The Chinese market is key in reaching the company's goal, with 10 million projected smartphone sales there alone. It's however only a small chip of a market so vast - China witnessed the shipment of 389 million smartphones last year. The company had more modest expectations in February when a 17M target was quoted, which then climbed to 25M towards the smartphones' launch in Taiwan in the beginning of March. That said, you should be impressed to learn that in the entire first quarter of 2014 Asus sold a grand total of 10,000 smartphones. The number exploded to 1.5 million in Q4 though, so the 30 million mark may not be that elusive. Via 1 • Via...

Galaxy Note 4 gets Lollipop in Baltics, Brazil, India and UAE

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android Lollipop rollout continues in even more countries. The update is already available for download in Europe and USA, but now even more markets board the Lollipop train. As of today Galaxy Note 4 units across Brazil, the Baltic region, India and UAE are all getting Lollipop notifications. The OTA update weighs about 1GB, so make sure you have enough space for the download and unpacking process. We guess you should need at least 3GB just in case. The new update will uplift your Galaxy Note 4 to Android 5.0 Lollipop and will offer you the latest version of TouchWiz UI, also inspired by Lollipop's Material design. There is a lot to discover in there, it will boost your performance and memory speeds, and hopefully will increase your battery life. If you live in Baltics, Brazil, India and UAE and have a Galaxy Note 4, you should check for an update right now. Thanks to Gaurav Hasabnis, who sent this...

Xiaomi teamed up with AOKP to work on MIUI 7

Xiaomi has reportedly teamed up with the Android Open Kang Project team to work on the MIUI 7 version. The AOKP members shared that they are all working with Xiaomi's developers over the a new refreshed MIUI 7. The MIUI 7 update is codenamed as MiKangy and will be based on the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. This new MIUI 7 is set to debut with the Mi 5 smartphone as mentioned in the blog post. But we do know that Xiaomi is not the fastest when it comes to software updates, so we don't expect the phone to arrive any time soon. For those who're new to such alliances, AOKP is the after market ROM developer like Cyanogen. Just like YU Yureka and OnePlus teamed up with Cyanogen to introduce the CyanogenMod 11S based devices, the Xiaomi Mi5 will debut with MIUI 7 with special features and experience developed in tandem with AOKP team. Recently, OnePlus grabbed hold of another third-party Android ROM developer team ParanoidAndroid to work on the...

Antutu performance report is out: Exynos 7420 in the lead

With the first quarter of 2015 behind us, Antutu was quick to publish its statistics for the current state of performance in the smartphone realm. The numbers leave little doubt who holds the crown, with the Samsung Galaxy S6 in a league of its own. The report summarizes user-submitted data gathered from 160 countries over the course of the three months from January to March. Then the mean score is calculated for each device, but different chipsets within the same model get a separate listing. The Exynos 7420 powered Galaxy S6 emerges victorious, a long stretch ahead of the best placed Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 contender, the HTC One M9. Interestingly, the identically equipped Galaxy S6 edge is a few percent behind its regular brother. The updated Plus version of the Galaxy S5, sporting a Snapdragon 805 chipset, takes the fourth, continuing Samsung's strong presence in the chart. Highest ranked Chinese entrant is the Meizu MX4, powered by a MT6595 SoC, the only Mediatek in the Top 10. Motorola claims sixth and eight spots with Nexus 6 and Droid Turbo, both sporting a Snapdragon 805. The LG G Flex2 completes the S810's disappointing run, while the OnePlus One sneaks in 10th spot, proving that the S801 is still relevant. GPU scores are a similar affair, although the superiority of the octa-core Mali T760 within the Exynos over the S810's Adreno 430 is less pronounced. Last year's offerings fall behind with each previous-gen proportionately lower in scores. The PowerVR 6200 inside the MT6595 proves no match even for the Adreno 330 in the Snapdragon 801. HTC One M9 Plus leaks in new promotional materials

Ever since HTC announced their latest flagship device, the One M9, at MWC 2015 the hype has been on about possible future models and variations of the unibody handset. A lot of rumors have been floating around about the One E9, which would be in keeping with HTC's current naming convention. Another batch of leaks has been hinting at a bigger Plus version of both the upcoming One E9, as well as the One M9. But besides the obvious increase in size and screen real estate, the alleged One M9 Plus has also been pictured with a physical home button, an oddity to see on an HTC device. Today, a new set of leaked promotional banners might confirm this hypothesis. The images clearly show a device airily similar to the One M9 and bring special attention to its round home button. The new control looks quite similar in shape to what Samsung has been using in its handsets for quite some time now. Logic dictates that HTC has reverted to a physical button so it can include a fingerprint reader in the M9 Plus to keep up with the competition. We definitely can't be certain if the images are legitimate or simply of a modified One M9, but with all the talk of a Plus mode, the whole thing is starting to sound more and more plausible. As far as we know, the HTC One M9 Plus might debut with two different chipsets - a MediaTek MT6795 model could cater to the Asian markets, while a Snapdragon 810 version will be sold elsewhere. The rest of the device's rumored specs include 5.2" QHD display 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of expandable memory. Source (in Chinese) |...

HTC One M8s brings 13MP cam, S615 SoC to the former flagship

With April 1 in our rear view mirror we don't doubt the legitimacy of new announcements, but this one had us raising our eyebrows. HTC revamped its 2014 flagship with a new camera and chipset and dubbed it the HTC One M8s. The updated design keeps the dual-camera, but moves up to a 13MP sensor with 28mm lens and f/2.0 aperture. The video recording should be capped at 1080p@30fps (it's as high as the chipset can go), though we're not seeing an official confirmation just yet. The front-facing camera is a 5MP shooter with 1080p video capture. As for the chipset, it's a Snapdragon 615. An octa-core processor with all Cortex-A53 cores, but half of them at a higher clockspeed for a sort-of big.LITTLE arrangement. There's also 2GB of RAM and Adreno 405 graphics. Going by Galaxy A7 results (which is also powered by the S615) we can expect a big drop in gaming performance compared to the HTC One (M8). At least the CPU is a 64-bit one. The rest of the phone is pretty much the same, essentially the HTC One (M8 Eye) with a different chipset. The Eye had a limited availability though. Anyway, this means a metal unibody, 5" 1080p screen and stereo speakers on the front. The storage is available only in 16GB and the battery is slightly bigger at 2,840mAh, matching the One M9. The HTC One M8s is launching in the UK first at £380, close to the current price of the original HTC One (M8) model and well below the new HTC One M9. Other European countries will get the One M8s as well, but it's not clear if it will leave the old continent. Considering the similarities in design, how will this impact One M9 sales? The price difference is pretty steep and the one major downside is the slower chipset. As for the old One (M8), that one will most likely get phased...

It looks like the upcoming Sony Xperia Z4 made its way through the FCC. Yesterday, a mysterious Sony phone with model name - PM-0780 passed the FCC certification process. Huawei P8 Lite apparently portrayed in official renders

On April 15, Huawei is set to announce the P8, its next flagship smartphone offering. But it looks more and more like we might also be introduced to another device on that occasion. We're talking about the P8 Lite, a handset that should keep the general looks of the higher-end P8, but come with lesser specs - and a more affordable price tag, naturally. Huawei P8 Lite renders So far we've seen the purported P8 Lite getting certified for sale in China by TENAA, and that process resulted in a few low-quality images of the smartphone. Now though we're treated to what are said to be official press renders for the P8 Lite, which you can see above (click the thumbnails for full size pics). The renders reportedly originate at an unnamed European distributor working with Huawei. That said, they could also be nothing more than fan-made renders based on those aforementioned TENAA images, there's no way of knowing right now. Anyway, as you may have noticed, they show a metal body for the phone, and two color versions - though there may be more of course. Alongside the pictures, the source of this leak tells us that the P8 Lite will have dual-SIM support and a price tag of €250 (sans contract, obviously). Based on past info, it could sport a 5-inch 720p touchscreen, a 1.2 GHz octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, a 13 MP rear camera, and a 5 MP selfie unit. It should launch running Android 5.0 Lollipop with Huawei's own Emotion UI on...

Huawei Honor 6 Plus is set to arrive in the UK on May 1

We've known for a while now that Huawei was planning on bringing its Honor 6 Plus smartphone to the UK. Last month we even got word that Three would be the Chinese company's exclusive operator partner for the device. And today Huawei has finally outed the actual release date for the Honor 6 Plus in the UK: May 1. That's when it will become available at Three stores across the country. This marks the first time that Huawei's Honor-branded devices are offered through a carrier, at least in the UK. The handset will be priced at £299.99 sans contract, which is actually £50 more expensive than previously announced. If you're impatient and want to be sure you'll have the Honor 6 Plus first, you'll be able to pre-order one at Amazon starting on April 6. The price should be the same. The Honor 6 Plus was unveiled last December, and it features a 5.5-inch 1080p touchscreen, and a pretty unique rear camera setup with two 8 MP units, combining to capture 13 MP images. The front snapper is a single 8 MP one, and the device is powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 925 SoC, boasting an octa-core CPU in big.LITTLE configuration. Also in are 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, dual-SIM support, Cat.6 LTE connectivity, and a 3,600 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.4...

The handset will be part of the Honor line, but our tipster called it "Cherry," which is likely its codename. Samsung Galaxy J7 revealed in user agent profile leak

New information has surfaced about an upcoming Samsung device - the Galaxy J7. It belongs to the budget-oriented family of the Galaxy J1, which was released in February and it will probably be the Korean giant's next budget phablet offer. There is still no information about the handset's RAM, storage and camera setup, but tracking information from zauba.com, reveals that sample units are already on their way to India for testing, so it shouldn't be too long before we hear some more information about the upcoming Galaxy J7. Survey reveals Apple Pay users experience problems at checkout

A survey conducted by Phoenix Marketing International shows that two thirds of Apple Pay users encounter difficulties using the system at checkout. Out of the 3,000 surveyed with an iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, 66% are using Apple Pay. Half of them reported that many locations, despite being listed as an Apple Pay partner, weren't ready to accept the payments made with the platform. Furthermore, 48% were dissatisfied with the time it took to process a transaction and described it as too long. In some cases, transactions were run twice or were just outright incorrect. Finally, 42% of the surveyed shared that more often than not cashiers weren't familiar with the Apple Pay system altogether. Bloomberg points out that a separate survey done by Citi Research confirms the complaints, too. Part of the reason for the problems is the shop's lack of iPhone 6 supported NFC point-of-sale terminals. In the US, retailers will have to upgrade their non-NFC terminals to new ones, which support the wireless standard by October as per a new regulation. In spite of the problems, Apple Pay usage increases thanks to the growth of iOS 8 adoption. Bank of America alone boasts some 1.1 million cards that are used by Apple Pay. Source |...

Carphone Warehouse will not carry the Apple Watch at launch

In another episode of Apple's marketing strategy for its Watch, we've now learned that Carphone Warehouse will be left out of the initial launch and won't be offering the wearable on April 24. The info has been revealed by no other than Graham Stapleton, CEO of UK's biggest cellphone retailer. Or as he cautiously put it: "We would love to be able to stock the Apple Watch. I've got to be careful what I say but I think they are just going another way with it. We have not been given the opportunity." Apple was previously negotiating with fashion retailer Nordstrom to carry the Watch and rumor has it that in the US Best Buy was denied the wearable as well. Apparently, Apple wants the Watch to be perceived more as a fashion statement, than a piece of tech and is marketing it accordingly. Aiming to create a more upmarket image for the Watch, Apple is reportedly planning to build dedicated Watch shops at high-end department stores in London, Paris and Japan. The company is also managing the stores directly, presumably to keep markups within the company. So far we've also learned that Apple has been clearing its own stores from any products remotely competitive to the Watch, namely various smartbands. Rumor also has it that you won't be able to just drop by a store and pick up an Apple Watch, instead you can just try it on and then order it...

This was supposed to carry ARM's big.LITTLE architecture, with an octa-core CPU, Adreno 450 GPU, LPDDR4 memory support, and a MDM9x55 built-in modem with Cat.10 LTE capabilities. The Snapdragon 815 was apparently going to be made using a 20nm process. There's only one problem with all of the above, it turns out. It's all fiction. At least this is what Qualcomm itself says, through the voice of Jon Carvill, the company's Senior Director of Public Relations. He spoke to Fudzilla and clearly stated that Qualcomm has no plans for a Snapdragon 815 SoC. In fact, the company's next top of the line mobile offering will be the Snapdragon 820, the successor to the Snapdragon 810. The Snapdragon 820 is expected to sample in the latter part of this year, while devices powered by it should be out either at the end of 2015 or at the beginning of 2016 - that is, if there won't be any delays. In the mobile chipset industry delays are nothing out of the ordinary, though, keep that in mind. The Snapdragon 820 will be built using a FinFET process, and it will be the first 64-bit SoC to come with a Qualcomm custom core, named Kyro. This will be based on ARMv8, but will be designed by Qualcomm. For comparison, note that the current king of Qualcomm chipsets, the Snapdragon 810, uses ARM-designed cores in a big.LITTLE...

Gold 64GB Galaxy S6 and S6 edge now on pre-order at T-Mobile

Both the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge are now available to pre-order from T-Mobile USA in gold, with 64GB of built-in storage space. T-Mobile started taking pre-orders for Samsung's latest top of the line smartphones on March 27, but up until today the magenta carrier only offered up the black and white color versions for them. The gold-colored handsets have been marked as "coming soon" during this period, but now they're finally up for grabs as well. If you pre-order a gold Galaxy S6 or S6 edge from Samsung today, you can expect delivery before April 10, which is the official release date for both models in the US. This is the same for all colors of the devices, with T-Mobile trying to send every pre-ordered unit out as soon as possible, maybe even before the launch day. For now the gold S6 and S6 edge are only offered with 64GB of storage, though we assume the entry-level 32GB iterations will soon be up for pre-order too, along with those coming with 128GB. As for pricing, for a 64GB Galaxy S6 you need to put down $99.99, then followed by 24 monthly payments of $27.50. For the S6 edge you put down $99.99, followed by 24 monthly installments of $31.66.
