Android 14 could bring battery health feature to phones and tablets

iOS has a Battery Health feature that's missing as a native feature on Android to show the device battery's maximum remaining capacity. However, Android 14 could bring that to all Android devices when its final version is released. Former XDA-Developers' EIC Mishaal Rahman has revealed that Google added some new BatteryManager APIs to Android 14 beta. Two of them are public APIs - used to provide information about cycle count and charging status - while the rest are system APIs that report the device's manufacturing date, date of first use, charging policy, and state of health. Rahman...

Redmi 12's specs, renders, and retail box surface

Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi unveiled the Helio G85-powered Redmi 12C last December, and the company is expected to introduce the vanilla Redmi 12 soon. The Chinese brand hasn't divulged the Redmi 12's launch date yet, but its Portuguese division mistakenly listed the smartphone on its official website, revealing its specs, design, and price. The Redmi 12 will pack a 6.79" FullHD+ 90Hz LCD with a punch hole in the center for the 8MP selfie camera. And around...

vivo X Fold2 in for review

The vivo X Fold2 launched in April, but the company confirmed its plans to keep the smartphone in China. Despite the sad news for international fans of the brand and of the foldable scene, we received one unit in Blue to run our tests. This is our first encounter with OriginOS 3, but perhaps this is the best phone to review it on. The extra depth due to the phone being foldable gives us a lot of features to explore. But first, let’s see what's inside X Fold2's box. There is a Blue leather case for the back panel, matching the finish of the phone itself. Thanks to the transparent...

iOS 16 is now running on 81% of all iPhones

Apple's iOS has always been faster to reach devices than Android, and that's thanks to the fact that iOS is iOS, whereas Android has varying levels of manufacturer skins which need to be adapted to a new version. It also helps that Apple makes both the hardware and the software, undoubtedly. So it will come as no surprise to you then to hear that iOS 16, first released last September, is already on 81% of the iPhones in the wild. If we limit ourselves to only iPhones launched in the last for years, the figure grows to 90%. 13% of all iPhones (and 8% of the ones released in the past...

It will become available "in all countries where Meta Quest is currently supported" this fall for $499.99. The timing of the announcement might seem strange, considering we're months away from the release. LG Display to get larger share of iPhone 15 Pro's LTPO OLED displays

LG has reportedly expanded its LTPO OLED production capacity to accommodate the large demand for this year’s iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. This development could spell bad news for Samsung which reportedly supplied up to 70% of all OLED panels for last year’s iPhone 14 Pro series. As a reminder, LG suffered low LTPO OLED yield rates last year which limited the supply to Apple and in turn led to some shipment delays for the iPhone 14...

Our Google Pixel 7a video review is up

The annual mid-range Google Pixel phone is arguably one of the most anticipated budget smartphones on the market and this year's Pixel 7a comes really close to the vanilla Pixel 7 in terms of features. However, beneath the surface, the Pixel 7a is just as capable. The handset sports Tensor G2 SoC, just like the Pixel 7, offers an excellent camera experience, and offers the same battery capacity as its more expensive sibling, while being slightly more compact. In any case, the device packs a serious punch and can challenge significantly more expensive handsets in some aspects, so...

Apple's iPhone 16 Pro lineup for 2024 will have bigger displays. Ross Young first claimed this earlier this month and Ming-Chi Kuo chimed in a few days after, both saying the same thing - bigger screens for the Pro models in the iPhone 16 lineup. Mark Gurman's Sunday newsletter further confirmed these claims. However, there's no clear consensus on how much bigger the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will be compared to their predecessors. Weekly poll results: the Poco F5 gets showered with love, the F5 Pro proves less popular

As one commenter in last week’s poll says, the point of the Poco F-series is to deliver flagship performance at mid-range prices. Both the F5 models do that and while it’s not quite a 2023-level flagship performance, it comes really close. Of the pair, the vanilla Poco F5 is the breakout star – over half of the voters showed interest, it’s rare to see such a positive reaction. It beat its Pro sibling by a large margin, which is quite evident in the Pro’s own poll. The criticism of the F5 – it applies to the F5 Pro too – was predictable. Some aren’t happy with Poco/Xiaomi software...

Samsung Galaxy A24 in for review

We got our hands on the new Samsung Galaxy A24 so let's do an unboxing. Like the rest of Samsung's lineup of midrangers, the A24 comes with naught but a cable in its box. The Galaxy A24 packs a decent punch for its very reasonable price - upfront, there's a 6.5-inch 90Hz Super AMOLED panel of 1080p resolution, inside there's a 6nm MediaTek Helio G99 with 4GB, 6GB or 8GB of RAM, as well as a 5,000mAh battery with 25W charging (but you'd need to source the charger).
