Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G ad got out a little early

At the Note20 Unpacked event on August 5, Samsung also made the Galaxy Z Fold2 5G official - kind of. As in, the foldable got plenty of stage time and press images were released but it wasn't strictly 'announced' - with detailed specs and prices all. A few promo videos followed, and then a shady hands-on clip the day after, with another one a couple of days ago. Joining these now is a newly-leaked full video ad. It goes over key features of the Z Fold2 5G starting with its phone-tablet duality - 'you can have it all and do it all' on this one. The 7.6" Ultra-Thin Glass display with 120Hz...

Huawei Enjoy 20 Plus renders leak showing Mate 30 Pro-like camera island

A couple of days ago we found out that Huawei's upcoming Enjoy 20 Plus smartphone would end up being powered by a MediaTek 5G-capable chipset, and not a Kirin like the Chinese company initially intended. This is because of the new sanctions imposed by the US government that hit the companies making the Kirin SoCs with American technology. A possible Samsung Galaxy foldable "lite" was certified by the Wi-Fi alliance.

The Wi-Fi Alliance certified a curious phone from Samsung, the SM-F415F/DS. The first “F” stands for foldable – the original Galaxy Fold is F900, for example, the Z Flip is F700. Since the Fold is the premium offering and the is more affordable (though still premium), what would a 400-series device be like? We’ll resist the temptation to call this a mid-ranger as foldables cost more than non-folding phones – that’s the price you pay for cutting edge tech. However, if Samsung could get close to $1,000, things could get interesting. Note that the “1” (the second digit) in the model number...

Google Pixel 5 renders show a design nearly identical to the 4a

CAD-based renders of the Google Pixel 5 have been released by @onleaks and the phone depicted in them looks very much like the Pixel 4a, save for a few additions and an omission. The screen measures between 5.7” and 5.8”, so it’s the same size as the one on the 4a. It’s flat too, with a single punch hole camera in the upper left. We can add a new entry to the list of Marvel-themed codenames for HMD phones – Doctor Strange. Unofficially, this phone is expected to be marketed under the name Nokia 3.4 and it is part of the upcoming “.4” series, which includes the Nokia 2.4 (aka Wolverine). The Nokia 3.4 was spotted in Geekbench results, which list the chipset as “Qualcomm Qualcomm” (that’s not very helpful, is it?). but the score matches the vivo Y20 result – a phone that is expected to be equipped with the new Snapdragon 460 chipset. Geekbench 5 results: Nokia 3.4 (Doctro Strange) • Nokia 2.4...

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE spin animations surface giving a 360° look at the phone

A couple of days ago we saw the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition renders in six different colors. Today @evleaks adds two 360° spins for a better look at the upcoming flagship. The colors seen in these spins don’t quite match up with the ones in the renders, so keep that in mind. The left side of the phone is now completely bare as the volume rocker jumped on the right and the Bixby key was booted – these are changes shared by all 2020 Galaxy flagships. But this phone isn’t a 1:1 copy of one of the current S20 models. For one, that triple camera on the back may appear...

Oppo unveiled the F15 back in January and now the company is set to introduce its successor, dubbed Oppo F17 Pro. Oppo's Indian branch took to Twitter to tease the F17 Pro and posted a short clip that says the F17 Pro is "coming soon". The video also shows us the left side of the phone, which is home to the SIM card slot and volume rocker. We can also see the camera bump that hints at the F17 Pro featuring dual rear cameras, which is actually surprising since the F15 came with quad rear cameras. However, there's also the possibility of the F17 Pro having four snappers on the back...

Huawei Mate40 Pro display glass points to smaller punch hole

We’ve already seen renders of Huawei’s upcoming Mate40 Pro which showed us it will come with a dual punch hole notch like the P40 series. The cut out appeared to be smaller in size and now we have a leaked image of the phone’s display glass which shows it’s indeed shrunken in size compared to the P40 Pro. We can also see the display will retain its curved “waterfall” design like on the Mate30 Pro. According to the new leak, the top and bottom of the panel will also feature a curvature though not as pronounced as on the P40 Pro. Elsewhere, the Mate40 Pro is expected to carry the 5nm...

Huawei to bring Enjoy 20 Plus with Mediatek chipset rather than Kirin 820

The Huawei Enjoy 20 Pro is already official and we expect at least two more phones to join the line - Huawei Enjoy 20 and Huawei Enjoy 20 Plus. The latter was reported to have Kirin 820 chipset, among other specs, but a reliable leakster on Weibo says the company is going to switch its in-house platform for a 5G chipset by Mediatek. There is no explanation why the switch might happen but given the recent troubles Huawei is having with its chipset arm, it is not surprising it wants to limit its in-house products for more valuable devices and not a China-only lineup - after all the Enjoy...

Xiaomi explains how it achieved 50 W wireless charging - 4,500 mAh fully charged in 40 minutes

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra stunned with its 120 W wired charging support, but the 50 W wireless charging capability surpasses what many phones can do with a cable plugged in. Using Xiaomi’s revamped charging technology, the phone’s 4,500 mAh battery can be filled fully in just 40 minutes. The company posted a lengthy explanation on just how this technology works. The key was to change the layout of the bits between the coil and the battery – the charge pumps (these are DC-DC converters that are used to increase or decrease voltage). Instead of the traditional layout of having two charge...
