"Stamp" could be Google's take on the popular "Stories" format

Whether it's your particular cup of tea or not, the "Stories" format appears to be working well and thus here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future, that is. Especially now that Google is reportedly gearing up to release its own take on the polarizing social media format. "Stamp", as per a Wall Street Journal report is Google's name of choice and a clever play on its Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) technology and an "St" prefix, for "Stories". Similar to Snapchat's "Discover" and Instagram's and Facebook's respective takes on the format, "Stamp" will be composed of swipeable slides,...

Nokia 2 FCC report surfaces, complete with photos and dimensions

The Nokia 2 has been frequenting the rumor mill for quite some time now. Crude drawings, renders, benchmark leaks and even live photos - the budget handset has pretty much gone through the entire leakster agenda at this point. Still, there are a few pieces left in this particular HMD puzzle - even fewer now that the handset officially cleared the FCC. Nokia 2 FCC report Naturally, the documents detailing the HMD Global TA-1029 offers a wide range of SAR values and radio test reports, of little practical use to end users. New Philips S310X pops up on TENAA

Philips has been keeping a rather low profile on the smartphone scene lately. In fact, to the best of our knowledge, the Dutch company's last Android handset release dates back to the end on 2015. This might change soon, as a mysterious Philips S310X recently passed through the TENAA Chinese certification authority. Typically, this is indicative of an imminent release, however, the published information has a few confusing points. For one, it appears the device or devices that TENAA received run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow - a rather unorthodox and outdated choice for a still unannounced...

Here's a closer look: For comparison, the Galaxy S8 packs in a 3,000mAh battery, while the S8+ comes with a 3,500mAh battery. LTE-enabled Apple Watch Series 3 said to debut by the end of the year

A report from Bloomberg cited "person/persons familiar with the matter" four times, so we will approach this story with the deserved amount of skepticism. According to the report, Apple could be releasing an LTE-enabled Apple Watch alongside the iPhone 8 or toward the end of the year. But according to "another person familiar with the matter" (from the same report, mind you) it could be delayed well into 2018". Do you see where the skepticism comes in? Anyhow, Apple had reportedly delayed an LTE-enabled version of the Watch before the Series 2 launched but had to put it off because it...

T-Mobile REVVL T1 leaks again, this time courtesy of the carrier itself

Back in May a leak told us to expect a new line of own-brand Android smartphones from T-Mobile to land at some point this year. It would be called REVVL, and the first device in the series was going to be the REVVL T1. Today the existence of this upcoming handset was confirmed by T-Mobile itself, because someone working for the carrier uploaded the relevant support documents already, even if the REVVL isn't official yet. YouTube Music finally allows offline saving of songs, albums, and playlists

YouTube Music has added an incredibly useful feature today, one that amazingly hasn't been in all this time. We're talking about proper support for saving stuff offline. Up until this point, YouTube Music's only option in this realm was an auto-generated "offline mixtape", which was created "based on your previous listening history". In other words, you had no control over what went into it. Google Pixel 2 leaks in blurry image, shows its big top and bottom bezels

If you love bezels, you surely liked what Google did with the original Pixel and Pixel XL last year. And, it turns out, you'll also very much enjoy the 2017 edition of the Pixel - let's call it the Pixel 2. Like in 2016, this will be the smaller of the duo. As you can see from the newly leaked image below (blurry as it may be), the top and bottom bezels are still very noticeable. Nokia 8 may run Android 8.0.0 from day one

We've already seen plenty of benchmarks of the upcoming Nokia 8, which will finally become official on August 16. Some were even outed while there was still some confusion about the name of Nokia's first Android-powered flagship, namely whether HMD Global would go for 8 or 9. Now that the Nokia 8 moniker is pretty much set in stone, we may have uncovered the reason for the Finns preferring it to Nokia 9. A new Geekbench run by a device referred to as "Unknown Heart", which has a Snapdragon 835 chipset and 4GB of RAM, sees it running Android 8.0.0. This is a first, but keep in mind that...

Nokia 2 photo shows front and back, but no specs

Artist renderings sure are pretty, but some take artistic license. Photographs are better, so here's a spy shot of the Nokia 2, which seems to live up to the leaked illustration from a couple of weeks ago. Nokia 2 (leaked photo) Photo or not, this leak does little to fill in the blanks in the baby Nokia's spec sheet. We're expecting a 5" 720p screen and a Snapdragon 210/212 chipset with 1GB of RAM. The selfie cam on the left should take 5MP photos, the rear cam should do 8MP (the video is bound to be 720p, it's the best the chipset can do). Source

iPhone 8 reportedly goes into mass production

The iPhone 8 has allegedly gone into production, which means the slew of component leaks should go up in plausibility. How many components could Apple's partners make before the launch in September? Analyst are fairly confident that the answer is "few". Even so, Apple was quite confident that Q4 will be a strong quarter and provided a high guidance when it published its last financial report. We shudder to think how long the lines will be if supplies are limited. Right on time! As expected, #iPhone8 mass production just started what means first genuine components should therefore start...

alcatel Idol 5 images appear on FCC

The alcatel Idol 5S is now official, which made us suspect that the company might be skipping number 5, but the phone is apparently still being developed. The phone appeared on the FCC website, and its design was leaked in full glory. We also know this is the actual name since the manual was also updated. Looking at the device, we see some differences from the alcatel Idol 5S. It does not have the front-facing speakers, while on the back the dual-LED flash is positioned on the right side of the camera instead of being below it. The FCC listing also...

Samsung Galaxy Note8 to go on sale on September 15, Korean carriers execs claim

You know the what, how about the when? The Samsung Galaxy Note8 will be unveiled on August 23 but sales will start later - on September 15, a new rumor claims. That's for the South Korean market, which traditionally is among the first to get Samsung's latest flagships (the US launch will likely be at the same time). There will be a pre-order period first, lasting 10-14 days. Analysts are glancing at the calendar, wondering if the Galaxy Note8 launch will coincide with the LG V30 (set to be unveiled at IFA, August 31). Chances are that the two releases will be close and it will be a...

iPhone 8 will have Smart Camera scenes, will support fast and wireless charging

Apple is helping developers get ready for the launch of iOS 11 and inadvertently revealed details of the iPhone 8. Devs already uncovered the design of the phone, now they dug up something cool for the camear too - smart scenes. Called "Smart Camera", the feature will automatically adjust the settings for a variety of scenarios: photographing babies, pets, fast motion, low-light scenes, sunset/sunrise, even printed documents. Android O could come out next week

Developer Preview 4 of Android O was released last Monday (July 24), and it was a release candidate. Unless any major bugs are uncovered, the final version will come out soon - perhaps as soon as next week. The Google Pixel and Pixel XL are first in line to get the new major OS version. It will bring Project Trebble, Autofill, Blob emoji and more. Perhaps we'll even get to learn what desert it is named after - the current front runner seems to be oatmeal cookie. Note that there's a chance the the O release will be pushed back. Last year, Android 7.0 Nougat started to roll out to...

Samsung Galaxy J7 Max preview: A closer look

The J7 Max is one of Samsung's continued attempts to compete in the mid-range market against the onslaught of Chinese devices. While previous attempts weren't particularly impressive, perhaps this time the company has managed to get the price to performance ratio right. We're about to see.

Moto G5 Plus deal (US): 32GB model is $30 off, 64GB model is $50 off

The G5S may be official, but the Moto G5 Plus got a price cut that makes them worth another look. The G5 Plus offers a 5.2" 1080p screen, Snapdragon 625 chipset with a 3,000mAh battery and a 13MP/2160p main camera. Compared to the G5S Plus, you get the same chipset and battery, but a smaller screen (vs. 5.5") and you miss out on the dual camera. The 2GB/32GB model is $200 on B&H Photo Video and on Amazon.com. It's probably worthwhile to upgrade to the 4GB/64GB model for $250 from B&H Photo Video (Amazon has it for $300). Note that the B&H deal ends today (at 3 AM ET). Via

Samsung Galaxy S8 shipments exceed 20 million

Samsung has managed to ship over 20 million units of its Galaxy S8 and S8+ flagships, according to market research firm Strategy Analytics. The milestone was achieved in July. The research firm notes that the per day shipments of the flagship duo stood at 278,800 following its launch on April 21. So in total, the tech giant shipped 19.8 million units in the April-June period. Likely because of that, even the average selling price (ASP) of Samsung phones in that period shot up. There were reports last month that Galaxy S8 sales are slowing down, but Samsung quickly refuted them,...
