Apple's tax woes in Ireland are officially over

Apple's €14.3 billion Irish tax break fine is officially one for the history books now, as the Irish government has announced that it's withdrawn all the money from the escrow account Apple set up back in 2018. That's when it deposited the aforementioned sum after being fined by the European Commission (EC) for receiving unfair tax breaks from Ireland. The amount is judged to be what Apple would have paid in taxes in Ireland had it not received a "sweetheart deal" in the form of "illegal state aid" from the Irish government in exchange for setting up its European HQ in the...

The Google Pixel Watch 4 will reportedly use the same old chipset, but will have a bigger battery

Google has abandoned Samsung and is switching to TSMC for future Tensor chipsets – the first, the Tensor G5, will power the Pixel 10 series and is already doing the rounds on Geekbench. The upcoming Pixel Watch 4, however, is not changing chipsets. The latest report is that Google will reuse the same chipset as on the Watch 3 and the Watch 2, the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1. This 2022 chip is fabbed on a 4nm node and has four Cortex-A53 cores. We recently heard that Qualcomm is working on a Snapdragon W6, with one big Cortex- A78 core and four A55 cores, but it seems that Google has no...

iPhone 17 now rumored to feature Apple A19 chip

A while back, we saw a rumor that claimed the upcoming iPhone 17 would be equipped with the same Apple A18 chip as its predecessor. Well, it turns out that GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu is now backtracking from his previous claim and expects the iPhone 17 to feature the all-new Apple A19 chip, which will also power the iPhone 17 Air. iPhone 17 renders in Green and Purple If you were also hoping for more RAM on the baseline iPhone 17, that's apparently not going to happen. Analysts: the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 are headed for record-breaking pre-orders in Korea

Analysts are keeping a close eye on pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 in South Korea and they are forecasting record-breaking numbers. Looking back at the last couple of generations, the Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 set the record with over 1 million pre-orders (1.02 million, specifically) back in 2023. The Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 from last year failed to reach that benchmark. Pre-order reservations on Samsung.com reached 160,000 in the 14 days since reservations opened on June 24. This was before the official reveal on July 9, but is used by analysts as a starting point to...

iPhone Fold's crease-free folding screen to be made by Samsung Display

Once again, a new rumor claims Apple's first foldable iPhone will use a crease-free folding screen made by Samsung Display. In fact, Apple had no input into the panel's design, it's all Samsung on this one - and this is notable because of how rarely it happens, as Apple generally likes to customize every single part it uses in its devices. Not this time, though, and the reason is allegedly to "ensure stable mass production" of the foldable iPhone, planned to arrive in the second half of next year. A custom display solution may not have achieved the same yields as what Samsung Display can...

vivo's X300 family is coming in the fourth quarter of this year (October to December), according to rumors from China, and today the prolific leaker who goes by Digital Chat Station on Weibo has published the camera details for one of these upcoming devices. It's a bit hard to figure out if it's the X300 he's talking about or the X300 Pro mini, so keep in mind this could apply to either model. Samsung Galaxy S26, S26 Edge, and S26 Ultra camera details leak

Samsung's Galaxy S26 family launching in January will have three members but not the ones you'd expect - according to a leak from earlier today, these will be the S26, S26 Edge, and S26 Ultra, with the Plus model being retired. Now another rumor indirectly confirms this by revealing the codenames for the upcoming devices, and there are only three of them: NPA1, NPA2, and NPA3. These stand for "next paradigm" or "new paradigm", as the S25 family's codenames were all "paradigm". There won't be a Samsung Galaxy S26+, new report claims

This year Samsung launched the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra in January and then the S25 Edge in May. Next year, the family (if we disregard the FE model) will only be made up of three members, according to a new report from Samsung's home of South Korea. So, expect to see the 6.27-inch Galaxy S26, the 6.66-inch Galaxy S26 Edge, and the 6.89-inch Galaxy S26 Ultra. That's right, there won't be a Galaxy S26+, that is, of course, if this report proves to be accurate. We can't say we're very surprised. Sony WH-1000XM6 review

Introduction This year, Sony released a new addition to the high-end active noise-canceling (ANC) WH-1000X series, following a three-year hiatus. The new WH-1000XM6 model comes with a promise of "the best noise cancellation" (according to Sony's official website), but also a $50 price hike. I've been an avid user of the series since the WH-1000XM2, so it was a joy to test out the new XM6 and see how well they're performing in comparison to Sony's older models. Design and comfort The Sony WH-1000XM6 are a full-sized pair of over-ear headphones. They come in three colors: Black,...

[#InlinePriceWidget, 13826, 1#] The third place goes to another new arrival, the the OnePlus Nord 5, while the Galaxy A56 claimed fourth. Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra rose to fifth, ahead of last week's champion - the Poco F7. Samsung Galaxy Watch8 in for review

A Galaxy of new Samsung devices made their way to the office, and we keep unpacking them. The Galaxy Watch8 is the new entry-point in Samsung’s smartwatch portfolio and we have the 40mm Silver version with us. But first – a quick unboxing. Watch8 comes in a simple white cardboard box, which contains the watch and the same proprietary 10W wireless charging puck that ends with a USB-C cable. The inside compartment also holds the new proprietary TPU strap. You’ll immediately notice the new cushion design, which takes inspiration from the Galaxy Watch Ultra. In short, the casing...

Weekly poll: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7 or Z Flip7 FE?

They are here – Samsung launched its next-gen foldables this week. This includes a new Fold and a new Flip model and, for the first time, a cheaper Flip FE. Do you have your eyes set on a particular model – and if yes, which one? The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is significantly thinner than its predecessor – it went from 12.1mm/5.6mm to 8.9mm/4.2mm when folded/unfolded. It’s lighter too, 215g vs. 239g. That’s 3g less than the S25 Ultra! However, Samsung had to make some sacrifices: the battery capacity stayed the same (4,400mAh) as did charging (25W/15W) and S Pen support has been...

Weekly poll results: the Nothing Phone (3) is a major misstep for the company

Some people hate the looks, others hate the price – there was very little love shown for the Nothing Phone (3) in last week’s poll. The design is certainly divisive and is a major misstep from a company that is so laser-focused on innovative design. Nothing also got overly ambitious with the pricing – the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 and non-LTPO display on an $800/£800/€800/₹80,000 phone attracted a lot of criticism in the comments. And those aren’t the only non-flagship features either. Plus, the small 5,150mAh battery feels like a waste of Si/C tech. It’s not so bad in the US market where...

It sits above the baseline Watch8 and borrows some features from the Galaxy Watch Ultra while still keeping its signature rotating bezel. There’s nothing surprising inside the box, Samsung is giving you a magnetic wireless charging pad attached to a USB-C cable. iPhone 17 Air colorways leak

The iPhone 17 Air is now rumored to come in four colorways: black, silver, light gold, and light blue. The light blue will be "very light" according to one leaker, barely blue at all and more white in a lot of lighting scenarios. The subtlety theme continues with the light gold version, which is muted and not at all an in-your-face shade of gold. It seems like the overarching theme of this device will be lightness and thinness, and Apple doesn't want its colors to get in the way of that. Top 10 trending phones of week 27

After a short hiatus, our trending chart is back and a lot has changed in the meantime. The Poco F7 is our new champion with the upcoming Pixel 10 Pro the second most popular phone in our database over the past week. The just announced Nothing Phone (3) shot to third, making this a rare week with no Samsung phones on the podium. [#InlinePriceWidget, 13969, 1#] The Galaxy A56 is the best placed phone by the Korean maker in fourth, followed by another yet-to-be-official phone, the OnePlus Nord 5. Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra follows in sixth, ahead of the Pixel 10 Pro XL and the...

Weekly poll: Nothing Phone (3), the good, the bad or the ugly?

After releasing the Nothing Phone (2) in 2023, Nothing took a year off from premium phones – but it promised a proper flagship for 2025. And, uh, here it is. The Nothing Phone (3) quickly became the talk of the town and not in a good way. Where should we start? The design is one of the more controversial aspects of the phone and it’s hard to ignore. Nothing has built a reputation for out-of-the-box designs and the brand’s style is instantly recognizable. However, this latest model – remember, it was two years in the making! – caused an avalanche of negative reactions. And that may not...

Deals: the Apple iPhone 16 and Google Pixel 9 series are on sale

You don’t see iPhone discounts often, but this week the entire 16 series is on sale – including the 16e. On the other side of the iOS/Android divide, the Pixels are on sale too. The Apple iPhone 16e serves as the “cheap” iPhone after the SE series was discontinued. We put it in quotes since it’s not that cheap – but having a €100 discount helps. You do lose quite a few features compared to the vanilla 16, though – here is a detailed iPhone 16e vs. iPhone 16 comparison. Apple iPhone 16e €100/€87/€80 off ...

Weekly poll results: the vivo X200 FE is a hit

The vivo X200 FE has a big presence for such a small phone – looking at the results from last week’s poll, this could be the best mini flagship out there. And yes, it’s a mini flagship, less than 5% of voters had issues with the size. Many still haven’t made up their minds and are waiting for a review (ours is coming soon). It doesn’t help that vivo hasn’t confirmed the global pricing yet. That said, the majority of voters are showing strong interest towards the FE. It will compete against the likes of the OnePlus 13s (but the X200 FE wins by default in Europe) and Xiaomi 15 (but...

Deals: Nothing Phone (3) has a discount from the get-go, plus some better looking alternatives

The hotly anticipated Nothing flagship is here – and everyone is talking about it. Unfortunately for Nothing, most of the discussion is about the price and the design and let’s just say that people aren’t heaping praise on the Phone (3). We can’t do anything about the design, but we can help with the price. The Nothing Phone (3), the 512GB model specifically, is already discounted by $100. You can think of this as a free storage upgrade. Note that the phone is still on pre-order and will only start shipping on July 15. The Phone (3) features a 6.67” 1260p+ 120Hz OLED display, not an...

Honor freezes, bakes, and shoots the Magic V5 to prove how durable it is

Honor made the Magic V5 official a couple of days ago, and today it's shared a new promo video for the phone, which is definitely different. It shows the Magic V5 withstanding a simulation of very forceful pouring rain, which isn't that unexpected considering its IP59 rating for protection from high-pressure water jets. The phone is then frozen, then subjected to a very high temperature. Then things get weird. Steel balls are being shot at the phone to make a point about its durability, and of course it withstands the impacts without any issue. See for yourself above. The Honor...

Sony stops selling the Xperia 1 VII to fix some issues

Sony unveiled the Xperia 1 VII, its latest flagship smartphone, in May, and it's already been available in Japan for a while now. However, today the company has announced that it's temporarily suspending shipments and sales of the device in its home market. This is due to many reports of Xperia 1 VII units turning off by themselves, randomly rebooting, and even not turning on. Obviously, any one of those three is a huge problem individually, but apparently all of them are currently happening in the wild. To those who have an Xperia 1 VII that won't turn on, Sony suggests holding...

Nothing Phone (3) is now up for pre-order

Nothing finally fully unveiled the Phone (3) at the beginning of this month, following a weeks-long teaser campaign. The company bills this as its first ever proper flagship smartphone, and while it being on par with the Ultras of the world is highly debatable, it is undoubtedly Nothing's highest-end device to date. Just as expected, today the Nothing Phone (3) has gone up for pre-order. The campaign runs until July 15, when the phone will become available on open sale. You can pre-order one from Amazon using our widget below. [#InlinePriceWidget,13969,1#] If you're in the UK,...

iPhone 17 Pro Max's battery capacity rumored to be larger than its predecessor's

The iPhone 17 Pro Max will come with a larger battery than its predecessor's 4,685 mAh cell. According to a new rumor out of China today, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will finally be the first iPhone to reach 5,000 mAh. As you may know, that's pretty much been the default capacity for flagship Android devices up until recently, when Chinese brands started using Si/C batteries thus taking them past that limit, while Samsung and Google have been content to stay around the 5,000 mAh mark, for now at least. iPhone 16 Pro Max Throughout Apple's iPhone Pro Max line, every new generation brought...

Samsung tri-fold appears in One UI 8 code

Samsung was one of the pioneers in the foldable phone market and we’ve already seen teasers about its upcoming first tri-fold device. Some rumors suggest we may see the tri-fold at next week’s Galaxy Unpacked event and we now have an actual look at the device thanks to the team over at Android Authority who discovered animation files hidden in the latest One UI 8 build. These show the device’s design, which includes three rear panels and two inward folding hinges. The more interesting bit is that the hinges on Samsung’s tri-fold feature different sizes and will reportedly...
