More details on ChromeOS's planned phase out emerge

Google is preparing a shakeup of its operating system landscape and ChromeOS is getting the short end of the stick. According to recently surfaced court documents from the US vs. Google antitrust case obtained by The Verge, Google is planning to phase out ChromeOS completely by 2034. Why that year specifically? Well, Google’s last major ChromeOS hardware platform release was in 2023 and that means it will have to honor its ten-year support obligation through 2033-2034. The new development comes from a transcript from the case where Google lawyers confirmed that their client was looking...

The report claims that a vivo X300e has been spotted in the GSMA IMEI database. While the listing doesn’t disclose any specs, it does confirm the device’s moniker. Why Camera Hardware Is Back at the Centre of Smartphone Photography

In recent years, smartphone photography has become increasingly dominated by software. Computational imaging, AI processing, and post-capture optimisation now play a central role in how images are produced. Yet as these techniques become more widespread, camera hardware is once again emerging as a key differentiator. The REDMI Note 15 Pro 5G Series reflects this shift clearly, placing renewed emphasis on sensor capability and optical fundamentals rather than relying solely on software to define image quality. At the heart of this approach is the 200MasterPixel camera system, which is...

Ayaneo reveals the chipset powering its Pocket Play smartphone

Ayaneo started teasing the Pocket Play, its first smartphone, back in November, and then in December it showed us what it would look like, Sony Ericsson Xperia Play vibes and all. Today, Ayaneo has finally revealed the chipset sitting at the helm of the Pocket Play. It's MediaTek's Dimensity 9300. That's an odd choice, given that the SoC in question came out in 2023. Sure, it was MediaTek's top dog of 2023, but it's more than two years old. Apple iPhone 17 vs. iPhone 16

Apple's iPhone 17 may look like business as usual at first glance, but this year's update is a bigger jump than we've come to expect from the vanilla line. In fact, the jump from the iPhone 16 to the iPhone 17 feels like one of the more meaningful generational steps we've seen in recent years. Of course, the iPhone 16 remains a solid performer. But compared side by side, the iPhone 17 clearly feels like the more modern and complete package - not just a small refinement, but a proper evolution for Apple's mainstream iPhone. Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is definitely the most hotly anticipated phone of the season, the Korean flagship topping our trending chart for a second week in a row long before even going official. Xiaomi's Redmi Note 15 Pro+ went on with its ascend and came in second this week, pushing the Galaxy A56 down to third. [#InlinePriceWidget, 14326, 1#] The Redmi Note 15 Pro is another to benefit from the global rollout of the series and took the fourth spot, while the Galaxy S25 Ultra retained its fifth position. The vanilla Redmi Note 15 ranked sixth, pushing Apple's iPhone 17 Pro Max...

Deals: OnePlus 15R price drops further, Pixel 10 series gets £100 discount at checkout

Last week, the OnePlus 15R 512GB had a £100 discount, which made it cheaper than the 256GB version (since that one was at MSRP). Now there’s also an additional £20 discount available at checkout – it’s not much, but the phone only just launched. With the extra discount, the 15R is now £40 cheaper than the Poco F8 Ultra. The Poco still has things going for it like the faster Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset (vs. 8 Gen 5 on the OnePlus). The Poco F8 Ultra also has a better camera setup with a larger 50MP main (1/1.31” vs. 1/1.56”), a higher resolution ultra-wide (50MP vs. 8MP) and a 50MP...

Weekly poll: can the 200MP cameras of the Realme 16 Pro and 16 Pro+ get you to buy one?

A couple of weeks ago, Realme launched the 16 Pro and 16 Pro+. Right now, they are only available in India, which is a shame – these two have some impressive specs and though they are a bit pricey, they could have found success in other markets too. The Realme 16 Pro+ flaunts a 200MP main camera (1/1.56”, OIS) and a 50MP 3.5x periscope (1/2.76”, f/2.8, OIS), plus an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 50MP selfie module. It’s not perfect (video stabilization and ultra-wide videos in particular being substandard), but it is better than most mid-range phones – many of which don’t even have a...

Xiaomi Mijia Smart Audio Glasses hands-on

Smart glasses are all the rage these days, and while Xiaomi’s latest offering is not the smartest option out there, it does offer a premium design and some generally useful features. The Mijia Smart Audio Glasses incorporate built-in speakers into the temples, which means you’re getting an open earbud experience built into the glasses. That’s paired with quad microphones for hands-free calls, and the ability to record calls and audio in your surroundings. We got hold of the Titanium version, which retails for €199, though Xiaomi is also offering browline and pilot styles, with the...

Weekly poll results: the small Oppo Reno15 Pro has a shot, the other two miss the mark

Not so long ago, it looked like mini smartphones were all but dead – now they seem to be thriving with multiple makers launching models at several price points. Oppo launched one in the Reno15 series and it was the clear winner of last week’s poll. But how successful would it be outside of its Reno15 family? The Oppo Reno15 Pro, aka Reno15 Pro Mini in India, didn’t knock it out of the park with around a quarter of the vote going in its favor – notably, there are a lot more people who think they can get a better deal with other petite smartphones. Still, if you look at the yellow pie slice,...

Motorola Edge 70 Fusion stops by Geekbench ahead of its introduction

A few days ago, a full list of purported specs of the upcoming Motorola Edge 70 Fusion got leaked, and today it looks like someone in possession of a prototype had it run Geekbench. The chipset has a CPU with one core clocked at up to 2.71GHz, three cores clocked at up to 2.4GHz, and four cores clocked at up to 1.8GHz. Apple once again rumored to partner with Intel for chip manufacturing

In early December, we first heard that Apple was talking to Intel about chip manufacturing, in a bid to diversify its suppliers and not be entirely dependent on TSMC. Now a new research note by GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu reiterates this rumor. Pu says he expects Intel to begin making Apple chips using its future 14A process, which is going to be ready for mass production in 2028. This means Intel will supply Apple with a portion of its A21 and A22 chips. That said, TSMC is expected to remain Apple's main chip supplier. Like TSMC, Intel will only be fabricating the chips, it won't...
