Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to hit South Korea this month

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is rumored to launch by the end of September in South Korea. SK Telecom is allegedly launching the phone's pre-order campaign tomorrow alongside its competitor carries KT and LG U+. September 26 is touted as the launch date of the phone for the three carriers. An unnamed SK Telecom representative said there should be no problems with stock shortages of the new phone. Rumor has it, telecoms are ready to launch the phone as soon as possible, but don't have the green light from Samsung to do so. However, the company might be considering launching the Galaxy Note 4 earlier than originally planned in order to give the iPhone 6 Plus a run for its money. Earlier in the spring, the Galaxy S5 launched earlier than expected as well, but for entirely different reason. Back then, South Korean regulators imposed a 45 day phone sales ban on the carriers violating laws that specify the maximum subsidy or a phone. Source |...

Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have just 1GB of RAM

Apple made a big deal of the number of transistors in the latest A8 chipset at the announcement event. Now we're sure it will run things smooth on the new Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus even if its GPU may not bring gaming graphics to the next level. Now however we learn the two devices won't be the multitasking monsters you might expect - according to early reviews of the devices both share the same limited 1GB of RAM. That sounds logical given they both use the exact same chipset - the Apple A8 but some rumors had it that the bigger iPhone 6 Plus will have more RAM. As is the iPhone 6 Plus has optical image stabilization on its 8MP camera, a bigger display with higher 1080p resolution, bigger battery and not much different from the smaller 4.7" iPhone. Before we get overly carried away with specs wars it's important to remember that iOS generally doesn't need much RAM to operate as smoothly as Android and the 1GB limitation probably won't be noticeable in most daily...

Lumia Cyan and Denim updates come to O2 Germany in Q4

O2 Germany has decided to push the Lumia Cyan and Denim updates at the same time. The roll out will happen as a single update package to eligible Lumia smartphones by the end of the year. This is bad news for Lumia owners using O2 Germany services since they'll have to wait a bit longer for their devices to jump to Windows Phone 8.1 (Cyan update). In the end, the carrier is saving itself the trouble of testing and launching two separate updates and has considered that combining them is for the better. Interestingly, a Reddit user from Ireland notes that O2 Ireland has already rolled out the Lumia Cyan update to its customers. Guess O2 Germany is experiencing difficulties that aren't yet disclosed. Anyway, the Lumia Denim update will come some neat features including launching Cortana from anywhere in the UI, new camera modes and 4K video recording at 24fps. The Lumia Denim update will first launch on Lumia 930, Lumia 1520 and Lumia Icon by the end of Q4 this year. It will be expanded over the entire compatible Lumia range shortly after that. Sony foresees $1.2 billion loss from its smartphone business

Sony has shared some bad news regarding its financial quarter forecast. The company is expecting its losses to quadruple due to "impairment" in its smartphone business. More specifically, in the summer of 2014, the company reviewed its stance on the mid-range smartphone segment and concluded that results weren't as bright as anticipated. As a result, Sony expects its Mobile Communications segment to lose $1.2 billion (180 billion yen). A cringing number indeed, which has made the company reevaluate its stance on the smartphone division. No longer will Sony seek significant sales growth, but instead focus on reducing risk, volatility and return more stable profits. Sadly, Sony will reduce its presence in the mid-range segment and change its strategy in certain geographical areas. Nothing specific has been mentioned, though. Still, further plans include focusing more on its high-end smartphones. The Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact are soon to launch and Sony is hoping they're going to be selling like hot cakes. We already reviewed the Xperia Z3 Compact and were charmed by its flare and great battery life. Source (pdf) |...
