Samsung reveals Note7 investigation outcome, says original and replacement units had different battery defects

Samsung has finally announced the outcome of its Note7 investigation, revealing not one but two reasons that caused some of the units to overheat (and catch fire in some cases). While the problem was no doubt battery-related, the South Korean company revealed that original Galaxy Note7 units and replacement units had different battery defects. Samsung Galaxy Note7 In case of original units, the tech giant said the battery design was to blame. Specifically, the flaw was in the upper right corner of the battery, and it "made the electrodes prone to bend and, in some cases, led to a...

Weekly poll: what do you think of Samsung Galaxy S8's screen size?

We received schematics for the Galaxy S8 duo with dimensions and discovered something amazing - the upcoming S8 will be about as big as the S7 it replaces, but its screen will be as big as that of the S7 edge! Similarly, the Galaxy S8 Plus will have a honking 6.3" screen in a body about the size of the S7 edge. Now, the rule for screens is that there's no such thing as "too big," just look at people's reaction to the Xiaomi Mi Mix. As with the Mix, slender bezels are key, because there's definitely such a thing as a phone that's too big. With that in mind, we wonder which model will be...

Top 10 trending phones of week 3

On Thursday Xiaomi launched a new version of Redmi Note 4 this week, but it's the old one that leads this week's chart. It edged out the Nokia 6, which just went on sale in China. The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime and J7 (2016) drop a position each and occupy the next two places. They rank just above the Xiaomi Redmi 3, which in turn managed to stay ahead of the newly-launched Redmi 4 version. The Samsung Galaxy S7 edge has gained two spots to slide into 7th, followed by the Redmi 3s Prime and Oppo F1s. The final spot in the prestigious chart is taken by the vivo V5. .news-item...

Weekly poll results: Nokia 6 will sell, sell, sell, unless you want a better chipset

It's no secret that the Nokia 6 is a fan favorite. We polled our readers and nearly a third of them said they will buy it in a heartbeat if it becomes available in their region. Still, this model has one fatal flaw - surprisingly, it's the chipset! We were sure the camera would get more votes - Nokia was known for its ridiculously good (and sometimes just ridiculous) cameras, not so much for its fast chipsets. And yet half of voters said they will wait for a Nokia with a better chip. Still, many in the comments came to the defense of the Snapdragon 430, saying it's fast enough and...
