Top 10 trending phones of week 19

The Xiaomi Mi 6X has retained its position as the most popular handset in our database for another week, while the Redmi Note 5 Pro has held onto the silver medal in week 19. The two are joined on the rostrum by the Oppo F7. Last week's bronze medalist Huawei P20 Pro has slid down to fifth as its P20 lite sibling also overtook it. That's the third week in a row that the lite has gained placed and it's now knocking on the top 3's door. The vivo V9 has regained the two spots it lost last time around and is back in sixth, just ahead of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. The Galaxy J7 Pro remains...

Huawei P20 Lite in for review

If you like the looks and some of the features of Huawei's new flagship lineup, the P20 and P20 Pro but you find their price a bit out of your range, the P20 Lite might just be the right thing. A lower price comes with cost-cutting and compromises are due. The P20 Lite is indeed quite a slimmed-down version of the flagship models but it perfectly fits the mid-range segment. The build quality hasn't suffered as the body still incorporates premium materials like aluminum for the frame but the jury is still out on whether the back is made of plastic or glass. It definitely feels solid...

Weekly poll: Android P - hot or not?

It's not so often Google does so many changes in its OS as we're getting with Android P. The public beta came out this week and we quickly enrolled a couple of devices to see what all the fuss is about. You can read about our findings, but we're interested to read your thoughts. And, well, count the yeas and the nays. The most obvious change is the introduction of gesture navigation - you're going to be swiping your way around instead of tapping to switch between apps. The Back button is still here though, what's that about? The quick toggles have been reimagined yet again - yes, we...

Sunday debate - Telephoto vs Ultra-wide secondary camera

This time in our Sunday Debate we discuss what makes an optimal dual camera - a wide-angle camera or a telephoto secondary lens. Of course, we would love to have both, but those are yet to be found on a single phone. Yordan: "Wide-angle for all your friends, scenes and memories" Dual cameras have been around since 2011 thanks to Sharp and LG, HTC but they were used for 3D back then. In 2013 HTC tried a different approach and made a One flagship with a dual camera for depth info, but it wasn't until 2015 that the tech went mainstream with the LG G5, Huawei P9, followed by the...

Week 19 in review: no end to OnePlus 6 and Nokia X6 leaks

There won't be much along the lines of OnePlus 6 leaks starting next week as the phone goes official on Wednesday. This past week, however, we had renders, photos, benchmarks, teasers even. Not the only 6 to entertain the leakster community, the OP6 was joined by the Nokia X6. Same stuff - renders, live photos, the lot. Meanwhile, Lenovo is ditching the notch and is working on a phone with an above 95% screen-to-body ratio, company VP teased on Twitter. The next-gen iPhones are still a few months away, but word on the street is that there'll be a 6.5-inch OLED iPhone in the same...

All you need to know about Google Duplex

Google previewed a new skill for its Google Assistant during Google I/O this week. Called Google Duplex, its purpose is to make calls on our behalf, conducting the conversations in a natural sounding and flowing manner to help perform "real world" tasks. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic Arthur C. Clarke An oft overused phrase, banned in journalism, but this editor honestly felt it applied here after hearing Google's demos of making table reservations and booking hair appointments unaided. If you've not heard Google Duplex do its thing then listen...
