Flashback: the Nexus One fell victim to patents, component shortages and lack of  advertising

The first-ever Android phone was a collaboration between Google, HTC and T-Mobile. At first, Google avoided building own-branded devices so as not to spook phone makers - if they thought that Google's own Androids will get special treatment, they might not support the fledgling OS. This changed in early January 2010 when Google unveiled the Nexus One. HTC once again acted as the ODM and created one of the most advanced Android phones yet. The 3.7" AMOLED display seemed impressive, the original Snapdragon chipset with a 1GHz Scorpion core was blazing fast for its day and people loved the...

In fact the Redmi family was certainly the biggest winner this week, with the Note 8 capturing the second spot and the vanilla 8 snatching fifth. Realme also has reasons to be proud as its X2 Pro flagship placed on the podium, ahead of the best seller that is the Galaxy A50. And the X2 Pro is not even the only phone by the young company in the top 10 with the 5 Pro getting...

Realme X2 Pro in for review

From aggressively priced entry-level devices to a true flagship in less than two years' time, Realme's journey is unlike any other smartphone company in recent memory. Initially, an Oppo offshoot, the young brand has quickly built its own identity in arguably the most competitive market in the world - India. After rising to prominence and growing at unparalleled speeds in terms of market share, Realme expanded its presence to China this past May and made its way to Europe later in June. At the time of writing, the Realme X2 Pro is the culmination of the brand's efforts in pushing the...

Weekly poll: is the Pixel 4 or 4 XL the right phone for you?

We know many of you held off on buying a new phone, waiting to see what the new Pixel phones will be like. Yes, there were plenty of leaks, but still the smart thing to do was to hear the specs (good or bad) from the horse's mouth. Well, would you be buying a Google Pixel 4? Its 2,800mAh battery is something that leaked relatively close to the launch and while we hoped it wasn't true, it very much is. No upgrades to charging speed either (be it wired or wireless) even though other makers are racing each other with ever faster chargers. The Pixel 4 XL does better in the battery...
