Nokia X30 in for review

We first got our hands on the Nokia X30 at IFA 2022 in Berlin, and now the phone landed at our office for a full review. We've got the Ice White color version, but there's one more option - Cloudy Blue. The Nokia X30 comes in a recycled box with the usual paperwork, SIM tool, and a USB-C to USB-C cable. It doesn't come bundled with the power adapter, though, so you'll have to buy one separately if you don't already own a compatible charger. The Nokia X30 is built around a 6.43" FullHD+ 90Hz AMOLED screen protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. The display has a fingerprint reader...

Top 10 trending phones of week 46

It's now four straight weeks that the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ leads our trending chart, but the difference to second placed Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is the lowest it has been. We can't rule out a change at the top, come week 47. The Samsung Galaxy A53 has jumped two spots to get the final podium position, pushing the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max down to fourth in the process. The long in the tooth iPhone XR and iPhone X are still going strong though and are now fifth and seventh. Between them we have the Redmi Note 12 Pro, while the newly unveiled Realme 10 Pro+ is just behind in eight...

Flashback: how Amazon Fire Phone's big bet on 3D and impulse purchases failed

In 2004 Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos created a team to build an ebook reader – in 2007 the Kindle was born and it went on to dominate its market. Then in 2011 the Kindle Fire Android tablet arrived and while it couldn't quite achieve the same domination it became a major player in its niche. What was next? An Android phone – but not one that is beholden to Google. At the end of July 2014 Amazon unveiled the Fire Phone. It ran Fire OS, the company’s fork of Android that has been reworked to slot into the Amazon ecosystem much like the Kindle readers and Fire tablets were. By that we mean that...

Low-end Motorola handset gets 3C and TENAA certifications

Motorola will probably announce a bunch of new smartphones very soon, judging by all the certifications lately. The supposed Motorola Edge 40 Pro passed through TENAA and FCC this month, which will likely be accompanied by the vanilla Motorola Edge 40 as well. Today, 3C and TENAA listings surfaced, suggesting a third, another Motorola smartphone is in the pipeline. In both documents, the phone is referred to as XT2335-3. As usual, the 3C listing doesn't reveal much, but the TENAA one has a few key specs for us. The display is a 6.5-inch IPS LCD with a modest 720 x 1600px resolution and an...
