Top 10 trending phones of week 42

Much like last week we have a Samsung phone topping our trending chart only it's the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which despite being almost 9 months old now ended up as the most popular phone in our database. Behind it is an even older phone - the Galaxy S21 FE was prominently featured in several sales events and people were clearly looking for a refresher on its specs. Then there's the ever popular Galaxy A54 to complete an all-Samsung podium. Apple's iPhone 15 Pro Max rose to fourth and pushed the Galaxy S23 FE all the way down to fifth. Redmi Note 12 leads the Google Pixel 8 Pro in sixth...

Week 42 in review: Xiaomi's HyperOS official, OnePlus Open and Oppo Find N3 are here

Xiaomi unveiled HyperOS this week - its overhaul of Mi OS and it got a lot of attention. The new OS will premiere on the Xiaomi 14 series, which is coming soon. We also saw leaked screenshots from HyperOS and they reveal a slight design refresh but not an overhaul. The Galaxy S24 series display specs were revealed. It looks like the non-Ultra models will finally get LTPO panels, bringing a truly variable refresh rate to the Galaxy S24 and S24+. All three will have a peak brightness of 2,500 nits - which is already behind recent phones like the new OnePlus Open and its 2,800 nits - but at...

Some Google Pixel 8 phones reportedly have an unlocked bootloader out of the box

In what is a rather odd situation, Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro buyers have been spotted on Reddit complaining that their shiny new devices arrived with an unlocked bootloader. We aren’t sure how widespread the issue is, but from the looks of things, it is fairly limited since these things tend to blow up online fairly quickly nowadays, and Pixel 8 devices also feature a pretty obvious warning for an unlocked bootloader during the boot process. The following text is presented to the user: The bootloader is unlocked and software integrity cannot be guaranteed. Any data stored on the...

Google Photos for Android now backs up all RAW images automatically

The Google Photos app has started automatically backing up all RAW images, reports 9to5Google. On a Pixel 8 that previously captured RAW pictures with the Pixel Camera app, the publication spotted Google Photos displaying a banner saying, "New RAW photos will appear in the Photos view and will now be backed up." The existing RAW images on the device won't be uploaded automatically. When you click a RAW photo, a JPEG version is also captured and uploaded automatically to Google Photos. That's not ideal if you take a lot of pictures in RAW since RAW files are larger than JPEG and could...

Google Pixel 8 unboxing

The Google Pixel 8 is now on sale and shipping and we have a hands-on of the compact phone and its bigger counterpart. But while we're working on the full review, we thought we'd do a quick unboxing as well. The Pixel 8 ships with a USB-C to USB-A adapter and a USB-C cable. Google doesn't include a charger in the box and if you want to get the official 30W unit, it will cost you €29. We have the Pixel 8 in Hazel, though it's more of a concrete or oil paint grey color. It's an interesting shade that makes us think of the M Brooklyn Grey Metallic paint job on the new BMW 3...
