Week 27 in review: OnePlus Nord rumors, iPhone 12 won't have charger in the box

The OnePlus Nord was the talk of week 27. We saw a few teasers for it and we know it packs a triple camera on the rear as well as a dual camera on the front, that it's powered by the Snapdragon 765G and that it will cost under $500. We already had a good idea that Apple is planning to ditch the earbuds from the iPhone 12 retail package, likely to boost AirPods sales. Well it seems Apple will also ditch the in-box charger from its future iPhones, with the pretext of a reduced environmental hit. Analysts believe the move aims to offset the added cost of 5G in the iPhone 12. In more...

Flashback: HTC One X bet on music star power and a custom imaging chip, but lost

The first HTC One phone was not the HTC One – but we won’t get into another rant about the name “one”. We want to focus on one of the best phones that the company ever built and one of the best Androids of its day. The HTC One X was introduced in 2012 and was the start of a new product line. The X would be the flagship, S the mid-ranger and V an entry-level offering. The One S had a metal exterior, reminiscent of the HTC Legend, which is a couple of generations down the family tree. HTC One X The One X used a polycarbonate shell instead with a pebble-like design rooted in...

Weekly poll: how often do you change phones?

In a poll we conducted a little over two years ago most people stated that they upgrade their phone every two years. Well, did you? Especially now that 5G connectivity, periscope cameras, high refresh rate screens and blazing fast charging have become commonplace. The adoption of these new cutting edge technologies has a downside – premium phones rarely go under $1,000. That said, the quality of mid-range phones has gone up significantly with many now offering near-flagship specs. They do have 90Hz or even 120Hz screens (some of them OLED), fast charging and so on. Even 5G modems and...

Weekly poll review: iOS 14 is a solid upgrade, might even get some to switch

Last week’s poll shows that iOS 14 is a solid upgrade – one in four voters think it will allow them to continue happily using their current iPhone, another one in five are looking forward to upgrade to the iPhone 12 to get the OS in its best form. Is it good enough to help Apple lure away users of premium Androids? Well, a solid 23% say that is the case. They will be able to choose from the $400 iPhone SE, the $600-700 iPhone 12 or one of the $1,000+ Pro models, depending on their needs. New in iOS 14: Home screen widgets • App library • Enhanced privacy • iMessage...

Honor 9A in for review

The newest guest in our office is called Honor 9A - an entry level smartphone that is available around Europe since June 23. Its retail box contains the phone, a standard 10W power brick and a charging cable ending up on a microUSB connector - yes, unfortunately the Honor 9A comes with the dated standard. The Honor 9A comes with a Helio P22 chipset, coupled with 3GB RAM and 64 gigs of storage. However, there is a long tray for two SIM cards plus microSD on the left side. One of the most impressive features of the phone is the paint job, and this isn’t some sort of backhanded...

Sony PlayStation 5 teaser pages on Flipkart and Amazon confirm late 2020 India launch

The Sony PlayStation 5 unveiled last month will arrive in India in late 2020, according to the teaser pages that went live on Flipkart and Amazon.in. Neither Flipkart nor Amazon reveal the price or launch date of the PlayStation 5 in India, but going by "late 2020" we assume the gaming console will arrive in the country sometime in November. The teaser pages on the websites of both e-commerce giants include the digital and standard editions of the PlayStation 5, meaning both models will be sold in the country. The pages also include the DualSense Wireless Controller along with...
