There are quite a few phones breaking the 8 mm barrier downwards, and tablets are following suit by getting thinner as well. A slender tablet is certainly better than a thick one, for looks and ergonomics alone. Apple is rumored to cut the waist of its new iPad significantly compared to the predecessor, which can't be an easy thing to do considering we have an aluminum shell there.
