The Xiaomi Redmi 2 was one of the first phones to launch this year, a successor to the popular and highly affordable Redmi 1S. The upgrades weren't huge, the new chipset was easily the most noticeable change. That left the phone with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, which is considered low these days (not necessarily for a CNY 700 / $110 phone, but still). Yesterday, TENAA certified an updated version of the Redmi 2 and Xiaomi's CEO confirmed on Weibo that it's the real deal - a new version of the phone with double the RAM and storage, 2GB and 16GB respectively. That's good news and was well-received in the MIUI forums... except for people who already bought the 1GB/8GB model. There's no info how those cases will be handled. We'd say "return it" but the pricing isn't clear (it seems that it will be slightly higher) and it's not clear when the new model will go on sale (so you may have to wait a while).
