Google's blog, The Keyword, interviewed the lead designer behind the Pixel 2 phones and other Google products. Here's a rare look behind the scenes and some insight into why the gadgets were built as they are. Ivy Ross, the lead designer, says that the most important design principle is "human". By that she means that cold, hard screens need to be balanced with something soft and tactile. This lead to the texture of the Pixel phones and the fabric used in the Home Mini and Daydream headset. Of course, the Pixel cases also feature fabric - knit exterior and soft microfiber lining....
