When the Nexus 7 (2013) was launched on the Google Play Store, the only protective accessory offered was a $50 sleeve that the slate slides right into; however, the sleeve really wasn't designed to cover the protective needs of every Nexus 7 owner and besides, it seemed overpriced at $ 50 ($30 for the sleeve and $20 for shipping).
