Xiaomi's Redmi 1S is enjoying great popularity, so naturally an updated version is on the way. The Xiaomi Redmi 2S has appeared on both TENAA and AnTuTu, giving us a pretty good look at its new specs. The new model will be more compact (134 x 67.2 x 9.2mm vs. 137 x 69 x 9.9mm) and lighter (134g vs. 159g) while retaining the 4.7" 720p screen. Other than the slimmer bezels, the back has been reworked a bit (the LED flash moved to the left of the camera) and that's about it for exterior changes. The capacitive keys below the display have been retained. The Redmi 2S will come with newer MIUI software that's based on Android 4.4.4 (the 1S uses Android 4.3 as a base). The chipset has been switched from a Snapdragon 400 to a 410. That means the Cortex-A7 cores give way to 64-bit capable Cortex-A53 cores, but the clock speed dropps from 1.6GHz to 1.2GHz and the newer architecture won't make up for that. The phone is still equipped with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of built-in storage. Xiaomi Redmi 2S (photos by TENAA) The camera department remains largely the same too - an 8MP main camera with LED flash and 1080p video capture. The front-facing camera got a small bump to 2MP. Another small bump is to the battery, now at 2,200mAh. The connectivity on the new Xiaomi Redmi 2S will feature LTE by default. It also brings Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0. TENAA indicates this is a single-SIM device unlike the Redmi 1S, which is a dual-SIM. This doesn't preclude a dual-SIM option though. Rumors indicate that Xiaomi is working on the sequel to the Redmi Note as well. That one will be 64-bit too, but wiht a more powerful Snapdragon 615 chipset. Thanks goes to Priyash for sending this in! Source 1 (in Chinese) Source 2 (in Chinese) |...
