It's official, straight from a Google engineer: the upcoming Android 6.0 Marshmallow release will not come with a built-in dark theme. Many people have been hoping to see a darkened version of the Material Design UI in the final Marshmallow release because an experimental dark theme was included in the Android M developer preview. You did have to jump through some hoops in order to activate it, but as the screenshots above show, it did actually work. Unfortunately though it looks like Google has dropped any plans to make something like this part of Marshmallow. So all that fans of stock Android and dark UIs can now do is hope that the search giant will reconsider when it comes to the next version of the OS.
